I don't write on here very often because I'm not the greatest writer but this story needed told. Over the past three or four years I really have struggled to keep hunting with traditional bows due to limited time and seeming like I never found the "right" bow. So just this past August I started to think about hunting season and what I was going to hunt with when it dawned on me I had harvested my first deer with a recurve ten years ago. So I started looking into trying a longbow as I had never hunted with one and seemed like a good way to celebrate my tenth anniversary. I found a used Howatt Custom Bushmaster 55# 64" bow and started shooting it. I was so bad with it I could even hit my backstop and was losing my expensive easton axis arrows. So I had kind of written off hunting with it this year. The strange thing was every time I tried to sell it I just couldn't part with it.So about two weeks ago I picked it up right before I had to leave for work and really focused on my grip and follow through and shot really well! But I still had my doubts inside of my head. I was still indecisive until the night before opening day when I put my sharp broadheads on my easton axis arrows and get things around to go out. About an hour into Ohio's hunting season this great little seven point buck comes walking down the trail in front of me sniffing a practice arrow I had shot right after first light and broadside at 18 yards I missed him by three feet due to my top limb hitting a tree branch. He ran off a little to my right knowing something was up and I was just praying over and over "God please give me another shot." and as the buck turned to leave hard quarter away I really focused on a spot and let the arrow fly. At 25 yards I hit behind the last rib with the broadhead angling up to cut the top of the heart. He ran 45 yards and I heard him crash. I'm so thankful to the good Lord for helping me harvest such a great animal with a wonderful longbow. I hope its the first of many.

Congrats on a fine animal.
Our season opened yesterday. I took my granddaughter out for her first ever bowhunt (actually her first any kind of hunt) for the morning. We seen 10 does and she got to half draw on one using the Samick Sage I bought her. I carried my recurve in the evening and gave a pass to a little spike.
Again, congrats! :clapper:
