Title: Anybody use the bleeder blades with Simmons heads?
Post by: johnnyk71 on September 28, 2017, 11:59:00 AM
i usually shoot Magnus Stinger 150s with the bleeders, but am thinking about trying the Simmons heads. most people shoot them as 2-blades, i think, and do fine. but i'm wondering if i need the bleeder blades. i've seen the damage they do, but was wondering. thanks.

p.s. - my setup is 53#@28", and the deer in South Alabama are not particularly large.

With the wound channel they leave bleeders aren't necessary in my opinion

I have shot them with bleeder blades. The way I look at it if you can push it through them why not. It may make the difference in a bad hit or bad tracking conditions. I have always been a 4 blade fan on any head. The only exception has been Simmons treesharks. Buy the way 53# will get the job done.

I used  them both ways.  This weekend I used a safari (no bleeder) on a doe. Quite honestly with the hole that it made I don't think you could even remotely tell a difference.

I've shot game with the screw Treeshark with and with out the bleeders and didn't see much of a difference in blood trails. I did have the bleeder pull out and remain in the animal a couple of times. That wasn't the main reason I stopped using the screw on Treeshark but I didn't like that the pulled out easily.

I used a bleeder blade on the last deer I shot with a screw in 175 grain Tigershark. Don't know how much of a difference it made but I don't think it inhibited penetration. I think shooting one at southern whitetails with a 53# bow would work great.

i ordered a pack of 165-grain Landsharks. can't wait to try 'em out. BW didn't offer the bleeders, that i could find, so i went with the 2-blade. can't wait to punch a hole through something in a few weeks!

I have used the Simmons with and without the breeders successfully. I use them when I have them because any extra blood vessels cut is better in my opinion. However not having the breeders has not caused any issues that I can tell.
