I've been hunting hard for a bear this year, have seen a few, but it all came together this morning: 7 yard shot-double lung and 20 yard recovery. I'm super-pumped as it has been 7 years since I have taken anything with a trad bow.
Congrats!
Good going!

Thanks, guys. It's been a long 7 years since I had a successful traditional bowhunt. I'm relieved that, with the shoulder problems I've had, I was able to pull off a good shot and he died super quickly. He let out a loud roar when the arrow hit and then filled the forest with lots of loud death moans from 20 yds away. That got me a bit shaky after the shot and it took a while for my heart rate to get back to normal.
Congrats. Nice color.
That's a nice looking bear!
congrats
Love the color phase.
I often think about that cow you shot also, being 8 miles in and all.
Congratulations on the bear Doug, well deserved!
Like Wayne & Tim, I think about you packing out that cow often. That was an epic trip in many ways. Being able to watch how hard you worked for that meat has continued to inspire me to push through the pain on several occasions since.
Good to hear from you guys. I think that cow elk tasted way better because of all the miles I hiked to get it out. If I remember right, it was 44 miles in 42 hours, and I loved every minute.

Excellent job no one could have done it any better. Gorgeous bear. >>>----> Ken

Said it before, beautiful color.
pretty Bear Congratulations
Beautiful, congrats
Thanks, everybody. I talked to a bow shop owner today and asked how many bears he thought are taken with traditional tackle every year in California. Only about 12 % of the bear harvest here is with archery tackle and he thought that maybe up to 5% of those bears are taken with a traditional bow so maybe 5-10 trad bears/year for the whole state. I've found very few traditional bow hunters here. Even those who shoot a trad bow will hunt mainly with a rifle.
