Good luck NY bowhunters! Early archery opened this morning in our Northern zone and our Southern zone opens Sunday, just in time for cooler weather. Hunt safe everybody. Please wear a harness when you're in your treestands, your family and friends need you safe! And post some pics of your hunts. :archer2:
I was going out this afternoon but it's just to darn warm......high 80"s just don't
work for me. I get up North shortly to take the Bear T/D for a cruise. I'll get more serious around mid October. Good luck to all and be safe, Remember........pick a spot... :archer:
Best of luck to all of you, be safe out there and let's keep this up to date as we do every year.
Thank you! Good luck to you as well.
I have seen more bucks this past few weeks than I have in many years. A couple VERY respectable.
These two were 1/4 mile down the road from my house.
Have seen a few six and smaller eights as well.
I live seconds from Orange co and God willing, plan to be out. Great state to hunt. Best of luck to all
Awesome!
Can't wait for my annual hunting weekend in NY!
F-Manny
Best of luck to all. Good looking buck Charlie.

Plan on making the morning hunt on opening day on Long Island.
Be safe everyone! Wear you harness and be attached from the moment your feet leave the ground either with a lifeline or climbing belt and harness strap.
Going to hang up the bow this season ,shoulder still not right from the tree fall last bow season.Going to challenge the.45 colt revolver during gun season.Everybody be safe and stay hooked-up if treestand use.........Aim small....shoot straight. Good luck to all.
I am in the same position to hot today. Plan is to be out tomorrow after work.
good luck fellas
Good luck guys. I plan to be in NY in a few weeks for 4 days of hunting. hoping it cools down.
I usually do what Ron does...wait until mid October but this year my nephews are leaning on me hard to get out with them on the 1st
It's good to be a favorite uncle.. :)
Good Luck fellas...stay safe
Good luck everyone, I'm headed out in the morning.
Rick
Good luck everyone. This is always my favorite thread of the year.
I've been getting a lot of pics of bears on the cameras this year. I hope to connect with one of the big ones this year.
Good luck over there everyone!
I'll be stillhunting in the backcountry of the ADK's Saturday..Longbow in hand...
Good luck to everyone. Looks like the weather here is finally going to cool down. :archer2:
Looks to be the Adirondacks on Saturday, been a whiles since I went up there but it will be good to get out.
Good Luck. Please wear you Fall Arrest System. And please use Permithrin on your clothing. Ticks are really, really bad this year. Stay safe, pick a spot, and fill the freezer.
Good luck everyone, be safe !
Spent some time in the rain this AM......not much seemed to be moving.
Good luck everyone. Opens here in Western NY in the morning. Supposed to be in the high 30's overnight. Works for me!!
Good luck guys and gals. I'm stuck working til Thursday.
This morning was beautiful 32 degrees with a slight wind from the south. I knew where I wanted to be in corner of the woods with oaks and hickories. True to form within a half hour of light I had two bucks gorging on acorns one was a 1 1/2 old six pointer the other a beast of eight pointer . After eating acorns for twenty minutes the eight had his fill and headed to his bedding area and I was on his direct path, unfortunately I was right on his path ! He came head and was at seven yards when he was broadside, I tried to draw as his head went behind a small hickory but he noticed something was up and bounded out to about fourth yards before stopping then slowly walked off . Oh well didn't really want to fill my buck tag opening day but would have if he didn't catch me . Also saw a dozen does with two big single ones and big ole turkey. The best time of the year is here and I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am !
Good Luck everyone, I heard one report of blood hitting the ground today..
Good luck to all . I will be doing most of my hunting in Maryland this year .
Hunted the morning on long island. Had a doe and fawn come in downwind of me and catch my scent.
Well it was a beautiful day to be in the woods on the opener unfortunately I didn't see a deer!! Can't believe it, has to be a first but that's hunting I guess
got this doe last night about 4:10 pm (https://i.imgur.com/zTkJ7m6l.jpg)
Way to go!
Attaboy Drew!!
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper: Well done Drew!
Nice Drew........

Congratulations, Brother!!!!!
Good lock to everyone... Season opens this Saturday October 7th for me here in Virginia. Ive worked very hard scouting and hanging stands over the last month. Just wanted to say please wear a safety harness and be careful. God bless each and every one of you!! Happy Hunting to all!
Okay Drew. Good shooting.
Nice shot drew! Way to get it started!
Congrats Drew :)
Congrats, and hope everyone has a great season..
Good going, Drew!
I heard deliberate steps and got all ready . . . and watched two ruffed grouse walk past in the leaves.
But that alone was worth the price of admission.
Did not see or hear any deer. Harumph.
And some low-life swiped the lowest step in my tree! I was thinking I was getting too old for this on the way up but When I climbed down I noted the hole where the step had been. Luckily I had a spare at home. Very odd.
I've had several does and fawns milling around me and one small 4pt.Haven't seen a bigger buck or large doe with no fawns that I want to shoot yet but sure is nice being out again.Good luck to all and nice job Drew.
Thanks Guys
Congrats Drew
Congrats again Brother!
Nice job Drew l
Thanks
Well another full day (half at one location half at another) still haven't seen a dee....ugh not really sure what's going on this is way out of the norm for these areas, I don't ever see a lot of deer but at least a couple :( :( :( Hope this year picks up some time. Oh well back at it tomorrow morning for only a half day.
Last week I only saw them walking around and this weekend is to warm! It took 1.5 hours just to cool down from the walk in! Hoping tonight shows a little action.
Nothing again this morning, hoping things change next weekend
Hot hot hot. Windy. Rain is coming but it's really dry in the woods-- no deer in the acorns and the apples are even neglected. Jumped a spike near a nearly-dry stream bed yesterday. Will water be the key this year?
Had some action on an oak ridge friday. I had 7 does feeding on acorns but couldn't get closer than 30 yards. then saturday I saw 2 different young 8 pointers in an apple orchard but they stayed far enough away to keep the hunt going.
Had a tight little racked six-point walk straight at me and pass nearly under my stand tonight. Never really offered me a proper broadside and I let him be. He was in sight off to my right (where I can't shoot because of the red maple branches I'm in) for 20 minutes and it was good to be in the presence or a deer, at least.
First I've seen from the stand.
:campfire:
Enjoyed watching a small doe with fawn for 20mins yesterday morning 15yds from my stand and then saw a big doe feeding our way. She didn't have any fawns and was donkey sized so when she got broadside at 23yds I let go.She only went 70yds or so and was done.Good start to the season.Light 45lb recurve(my wrist looks like my ankle again ),125 gr Stinger 2blade,Heritage 90 shaft, took lungs and broke off side shoulder.
Hunted last Sunday. After changing my stand because of the wind, I got winded!! Saw some turkeys and squirrels. Looks like it will be another warm one this weekend!
Congrats Marvin!
congrats Marvin
Good job Marv, you slayer.
Congrats Drew!!
Hunted Saturday and Sunday only saw a doe and button buck Sunday afternoon but Saturday morning I tripped over something in the dark after untangling it from the grass I discovered it was a shed from a great ten pointer I haven't seen since last year early in October, really hoping to cross paths with him this year!

I shot this doe on 10/10 after hunting for a total of about 2 hours. I hadn't gone out previously because its been so hot and I just didn't feel that my shooting was up to par. I was also trying to get my 14 year old daughter out for the youth season.
The real adventure started after the shot - she ran back towards her bedding area which is a 50 foot deep ravine creek bottom. I had to call my neighbor to help me get her up and out of there.

Congrats Marv and Alex!
Sorry for the double post - just trying to figure out how to post the pictures the right way!

Good on you, Nashoba!
Nice shooting Alex!!!
Congratulations Marvin
Nice shooting Nashoba, sorry about your tough drag. I had to drag mine about 3 feet total ; a tractor with a bucket is a wonderful thing.
congrats Alex
Congratulations Alex nice one
Is it ever going to cool down? Maybe early next week but it has been mostly hot when I have had the chance to hunt.
Thanks for letting me share my hunt.
Good shooting guys!
Years ago, our season started the 15th... We usually went out opening day, just because! Lol But, we never really got SERIOUS untill Nov. IMO, the Oct 1st opener is a bad idea! It was just a bone, thrown out way, when they legalized the crossgun for the prime 2 weeks of bow seaon. I'd have prefered an extended late season myself. But, that's just me!
I agree woodchucker.........and we lost the weekend on the end with the Saturday gun opener. That was in prime time.
So let me recap so far, Drew got first blood, Marv 2nd, now Alex 3rd, way to go WNY guys.
Alex love that snake skinned longbow
Thanks Gerald that's one I made back around 2008 and haven't hunted with it since then. I've been using it at all the shoots this year because it's lighter than my other ones that I've made.
Another sit with nothing in the books!! The turkeys were gobbeling like crazy though. I will try again tonight! Probably melt into the tree!
Watched a medium sized doe for awhile this morning but that was all I saw even though I stayed on stand until 11am. MAN IT'S HOT ! Taking a break until it's less that 60 degrees.
I feel the same way Marvin, dying to go back out but
don't want to burn my spot out.
Hunted with my 13 year old son tonight we saw 5, 2 were bucks but no shot. After they left he told me that was pretty neat , made me feel good knowing that to him just seeing deer close was fun.
Nice nothing more special than to spend quality time
with your kids .
Saw my first deer of the year Saturday morning (3.5 days 1 deer  :scared: ) nice little 4 point would have tasted great but alas he stayed out at 40 yards, that's was 8:30am nothing for the rest of the day. However I'm starting to see a lot more buck sign, trees torn up and a few scrapes starting to be tended. Hopefully we'll catch a break in this weather soon can't walk 200yards before starting to sweat.
Friday I had a few hours to hit the woods and with a south wind I headed to a spot I haven't hunted in years. The spot is a nice funnel adjacent to some power lines and covered in white oaks and beech along a tiny creek. I found a tree that would give me cover and good shooting lanes. At 5:30 I noticed two does across the woodlot and it looked as if they might circle down towards me. At 6:00 both made their way by my stand, feeding in and out of beech saplings. The bigger doe was going to pass me at 8 yards broadside. As she walked behind a tree, I drew... she stopped... I held for 10 seconds or so and she stepped out slightly quartering toward me. I knew I could slip the arrow onto where it needed to be. The shot looked perfect and I knew she wouldn't make it long. She made it 150 yards on a dead run before crashing.
Congrats Greg! :D
Congrats Greg!
Good Shooting Greg! Enjoy the cutlets...
... mike ...
congrats Greg
Congrats Greg! :clapper:
Thanks guys. It was a great hunt I went out tonight and saw a few does off a ways and had a young 4 pointer walk under me. Going to try and get out tomorrow evening again.
Congrats Greg.
Saturday I had seven antlerless (one an odd "double button" that may have a interesting rack in a few years). The button walked a few feet away under my stand. I could have held out my arm and dropped an arrow on him.
At two times an our apart I had a doe with twin youngins and both times the older does kept just out of range and walked back and forth along a parallel trail 60 yards west (upwind) of my stand - looking away from me. It was like they were patrolling. A pair of the fawns actually bedded 40 yards away at one point.
No real shots presented. One "iffy" 25 yard on a larger doe that I passed on. Though I was 3/4 drawn it just didn't feel right - she turned away instead of towards me and never paused. I'm a 20 yard kind of hunter.
Still hoping for one of the bucks that my trail-cam captured.
Leaving for an evening sit shortly. Going to see what's moving this afternoon. Hope to have a bit of action but who knows. It is a beautiful day.
Just woodpeckers and chipmunk races, but it was a nice 3 1/2 hour sit. Weather was beautiful.
Congrats Greg.
Ron, This is your year!
A couple of does blew past me at around 4:30. Walked home at 6:10 to find 5 of them eating acorns under the oak on my lawn. You just have to laugh sometimes. Anyhow, the temps are a bit more cooperative and maybe we'll start seeing more deer. I agree with whoever said better a longer late season than the early October opener. Wondering what the crossbow menace will bring......
Sat again this morning from 6:15 to 10am without seeing a deer. Last deer I saw was opening morning when I saw 2 does with fawns. Walked out of the woods to my truck at 10am and while putting my stuff in the truck looked up and on the hill overlooking the homeowners driveway stood 3 doe looking down on me. Like huntryx said, " you just gotta laugh".
Good Luck to y'all! Congrats to Drew, Alex, Marvin & Greg! Well Done!
More heatwave, but some movement in the AM. Mostly chipmunks during the evening sit.
I had a little 6pt munching on beechnuts underneath my stand this morning for 5 minutes but I let him walk. I've got plenty of time to hunt and the rut won't get hot for at least another 10 days.Sarting to see more scrapes already but man is it hot quickly in the morning. I just don't believe they're moving much in these temps.Good luck everyone.
Was lucky enough to take a small 6pt yesterday morning with my longbow. I believe he came in pushing a doe around (I say believe cause I could see to deer chasing each other through the pines in front of me then he broke off and fed my way and the other turned and left).
It took a while for him to feed in as there was plenty of acorns between him and me to keep him occupied. He fed straight in till he reached 5 yards :( not a fan of shots that close from a stand. When he turned the arrow was on its way.
The shot ended up being back and I was sure I punched liver. The string tracker sang for what seemed like an eternity then just stopped, didn't slow down just stopped. I gave it an hour then got down and checked the arrow. Sure enough looked like a bad shot and the string had been cut off by the broadhead :scared: so I backed out and gave him six hours before going back.
When me and my brother headed back in we took up the track on the string tracker. Now I don't know if you guys have tracked through pine needles before but it's rough! Thankfully the string tracker kept us in the right direction and after a 100 yards I saw his belly infront of us. The string tracker had pulled out of the deer 10 yards from where he lay. The shot was back but ended up severing the artery under the back bone he was dead 30 seconds after the shot and only made it 140 yards. Still glad I waited though.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed that string tracker, it was my first hunt with one and I love it. I definitely need to practice that shot more as the bow is so long I know I must have gotten out of form for an angle like that.
Hope I cools down soon and we'll be back at it next weekend. Best of luck to the rest of you
Glad you found him....... :clapper:
Congrats Greg! :clapper:
Congrats Greg, how about a couple pictures. :)
congrats Greg
Thanks guys, I used photobucket until they went screwy and haven't figured out the whole picture thing since. Happy to pass them along to someone who can.
Greg, email a couple to me and I'll post them for you. Fred
Congrats Kopper.
I took a small buck myself this morning. I've been seeing bigger but he offered himself up with a standing 12 yard broadside and I didn't want to embarrass him. ;-) Finally got to see how my three-blade Mowoc Dots work (launched from a Red Wing Hunter of 49# +/- on Douglas fir shafts). Dropped in 150 yards . . . but little blood trail.
Jury is still out. Did a LOT of lung damage but I hit him high and he bled inside. Wasn't until he started to cough that I had a trail. I tracked the disturbed leaves, not the blood.
Congratulations Charlie nice deer!
Here's a pic of Greg and his deer........
Congratulations Greg and Charlie!
Congrats Charlie I,m glad you spared him a life long embarrassment and probably being shunned by the rest
of the herd lol.
Despite the heat I did see some movement last night but it was late; just before and just after legal time.I had a big doe go by at 6pm and about 10mins later I saw a nice 8pt heading my way.I wasn't in a tree with alot of background and at 40yds I think he saw me as he stopped, stared, and and turned around.I gave him a couple minutes and climbed down.Walking out I turned a corner by a field edge and almost walked into 2 bucks working a scrape.A small 6 and I believe the same 8pt.Spooked them good.I'll give that spot a break and try it again in a few days.
Congratulations Charlie and all.
Good job guys....... :clapper: :clapper:
C'mon Ron, kill a deer already! You're starting to act like me!?
Have not been out much......when it cools a bit. What about you Chuck.......lol
To darn hot for me, Ron!!! LOL
Been spending my weekends working around the cabin.
My T/D's on the porch, just in case one walks up to check things out.
(Hmmm, I guess some would consider that hunting...??)
I'm with you guys. Weather here has been way to warm. I was going to go out this morning before a storm front moves in tomorrow but it was 55 degrees at 5:30am with 96% humidity.
Two new scrapes showed up between yesterday and this AM. Things are starting to happen here, but late I think due to the temperatures. Feels like we're a month behind...
congrats Charlie
Congrats Greg and Charlie!
Went out Saturday but in this warm weather didn't see a thing, even the cameras didn't have much activity. Put up two more stands during mid-day.
Congratulations Greg and Charlie !!!

That looks encouraging.
:campfire:
Yup, buried to the feathers!!!
I've already seen Jim's pics and was hoping he would get them on here, he's had a fantastic year of bowhunting.
By the way Jim makes 4 for the WNY guys.

Incredible Buck James, Congrats!!!
Attaboy!!! Very nice buck!!
What a beauty!!!!
Congratulations !
:campfire: :clapper: :clapper:
Great looking buck, and a great shot.
Way to go!! Congrats. :clapper: :clapper:
Let's count that would be 1 elk, 1 big black bear, and 1 nice buck taken by Jim in the last year all with that Zipper longbow. I'd say " he da man"!!!
Beautiful buck congratulations sir!!! Wonderful shooting, look forward to the story
Nice buck ! I sat until 10am this am but only saw a doe and fawn.If the rain holds off I'll perhaps try again this evening.
Nice shooting and great buck! Congrats! :archer2:
Had a small buck go under me at about 6:30 this morning too dark to see how big he actually was. I also had 3 does within 10 to 20 yards but I held off hoping the was a mature buck following them . I was tempted to take the last one in line she was the one at 10 yards.
Did a 3 hour sit this afternoon.....close to home. Really not much going on, heard some turkeys a ways off but never saw them. Saw 3 does, they were by my truck and the land owners house when I came out at 6:15. Not the first time that has happened........lol.
Thanks for all the nice comments guys! The action is going to warm up here real soon... keep at it guys :)
Sat this evening for just over 3 hours and saw a lone doe about 40 yards out around 3 pm. My wife and I just pulled into our driveway after having dinner with friends and had 2 doe by my garage. Wife said maybe I should put a stand up....lol
Great buck Jim, congrats!
The weather will be warm again on Saturday but I'll be out. Going to hunt a stand I haven't hunted in years that is a primary scrape area. It's on public ground but for the last ten years it was posted by the adjoining landowner and he had his kids swings and picnic tables on the property. The county must have found out and removed the property and took down the posted signs last year. Hopefully it's as good as it was years ago. The scrapes last week had just barely been touched.
Congrats sockrsblur! Great buck!
way to go James , congrats
Did a sit this AM.......not much going on in the woods today. The squirrels seem happy........still pretty warm. Maybe after the storm this weekend things will change......lets hope so!!!!!
Great buck Jim
So kill him already, Bob!!! Any Buck that walks in front of YOU 4 times... Is just STUPID and needs to be taken out of the gene pool!!!!!
Going now to try a mid day sit......maybe they will be moving before the storm.....or maybe not....lol :dunno:
I let a spike and a forkhorn walk on by this am.I'm seeing small bucks but no big boys yet.Lots of new rubs and scrapes popping up now so hopefully next week the older guys will move more during daylight.
Not much to see today......still have not seen a deer while hunting......but that's nothing new for me.
Chuck I almost took your advice when he came in grunting this morning but gave a him one more pass pass , the next one that came by wasn't quite so lucky... not sure how to post pictures anymore. By 8:10 I had seen four bucks,a doe and fawn and a button buck not to mention the one that came right under me in the back . The woods are alive with activities right now .
Congratulations bob can't wait for a picture!! New Yorkers are posten up great this year, keep it up guys!!
finally posted the story...

Congrats Bob!
congrats Bob
Congratulations Bob... we need a picture man! :readit:
Yaaa Bob ! How about more details ? I let a very small 8pt walk last night ..not like me but he was very small bodied and his little rack was no bigger than my hands.Does were moving heavy too and I had 5 near me for awhile.Rain slows maybe I'll go out this evening.
It's a beautiful morning in my neck of the woods but not much movement. How about you guys?!
Jim I went out for about an hour this morning but it started to pour here in Caledonia so I called it a day.
3 hour sit this evening........still no action. A few tree rodents became active late, just before sunset.
Bob, congratulations; figured it was just a matter of time. Heading up to Tim's tomorrow morning. Hope we hear from you.
Shick
Scrapes starting to sprout in my area. ime for an all day sit, I'm thinkin'...............
Shick I'll be at camp Sunday Monday and Tuesday stop over .

Here is a picture we have been missing from our collection! :) Bobs buck!
Congratulations! Very nice.
Nice one......
Thanks Jim
Congrats Bob! Way to go! :clapper:
Nice Buck, Bob!!!!!
Going from 50s today to 30s by tomorrow morning! Let's see what that does:)
I saw 2 young does and an oddly handsome 2.5 yo 4 pt this morning..early rain did make a pretty Wood's morning.
Fingers crossed---new scrapes and sightings are up from last week...
Missed a monster yesterday morning. The kind of buck you see once every ten years or so and I shot under him.No pics of him om my cameras or my neighbors.Rut they just show up ! Seeing more movement now so maybe I'll get another chance at something decent. Good luck to all .
That sucks Marvin, I did the same thing a week and a half ago on a small 8 pt broadside to me at 25 yards. I went home and practiced shooting for a couple hours and redeemed myself by shooting a coon in the head at 20 yards . It never surprises me how hard those things are to kill. I have a agreement with the farmer that I will shoot some of the coons because of the crop damage that they do.
Marvin I wouldn't want to be the next buck that comes by you ! I have seen you shoot ... Hope the rain stops someday
Congrats Bob.
Bummer Marvin, but as they always say a clean miss is always better....... But it still doesnt make you feel better when you flub up. been there and done that.
Congrats alex. Fire up the grill!
Thanks Charlie unfortunately that coon ran down into the swamp where I couldn't recover him. I know he is dead he did that god awful growl that they do for about 25 seconds then all was quiet. To ad insult to injury I never recovered my Eclipse broadhead or arrow. By the time it was all said and done I figure I was out well over 20 dollars so much for helping out the farmer. I now carry a "coon " arrow made up of old carbon express arrows I no longer use.
Been a wet morning but agree with more activity.
Marvin sorry about your miss. Those bigger ones seem to have a force field or some voodoo they put on a guy.... they seem easy to miss when the shouldn't be.
Congratulations Bob and Jim, after a season and a half and almost a year of not shooting my trad bows because of tendinitis in my elbows. I have finally been shooting enough to be confident enough to hunt with a recurve again. I have been out three times with my Bob lee hoping to get a shot soon.
Good Luck, Jim!!!!!
Saturday's all day sit produced a few sightings but no shots. Saw a very large-bodied 8 in the AM. Things are finally picking up!
Work today rest of the week offf :jumper:
Welcome back jim! You timed your comeback nicely with the run action improving. I seem to remember you putting some deer in the freezer ha looking forward to the updates!
:campfire:
Thank you Jim it feels so good to be back at it.
I'm back in Pa. Had a super 3 days in NY. No venison brought home, but I saw the two biggest buck I've seen in the woods, a 9 and 10 pointer. Watched the 10 ptr. mount a doe twice. A first for me. Been closer to doe than ever in my life without spooking them. Had a doe at 10 yds broadside unaware of me, but already made up my mind not to shoot. A very good experience. Hope to do 2 more days in NY next week. Bob, I believe you were heading to camp when I was on my way home. Next time.
Shick
Nice buck B. Brown, glad I finally saw the pic,
Soooo glad that deer slayer from Silver Springs is back at it. Watch out deer, welcome back Jim.
Almost forgot Bob you make 5 deer for the WNY gang. Congrats!!!
I've always said... "I'd rather be Lucky, than Good!"
Now Bob... Is Lucky, AND Good!!! Ya just can't beat that...!!
Thanks Gerald , I think with the layoff I forgot a lot of bad habits because I'm shooting better than ever.
Thanks Gerald , I think with the layoff I forgot a lot of bad habits because I'm shooting better than ever.
Welcome back Jim. Usually you are tagged out by now lol. These NY guys should thank you for allowing them some time to get a head start lol
Part of my plan Charlie lol
Shick hope you get one of those bucks when you come back . We are at camp now and dad saw two BIG bucks today and the weather is looking better each day ...
It's been a good year so far. It started out in Quebec in June at tradgang bear quest 11 where a took my first ever black bear, although I have to say the best part of the trip was just sharing a camp with fellow traditional bow hunters for the first time. Usually any camp that I have been in before I was the lone trad hunter. Tom Phillips puts on one hell of a hunt accompanied by his side kick Don (bow doc) Ward. Sadly bow doc has passed since then so although I have lost a friend I feel very fortunate to have met him.
I was fortunate enough to have taken a doe the first morning that I was able to hunt this year and a nice plump 5 point a couple of weeks later. There is still a lot of season left and the bucks are starting to chase here in northern N.Y. good luck to everyone the rest of the season .

Rick, congratulations to you; and glad you could share camp with Tommy and Donnie. My '70 Bear takedown made the trip to NY in Donnie's honor.
Shick
Thanks guys, bow doc was one of a kind!!
Congrats Rick, It sounds like you are having an incredible year!
I give you about 1 week Jim before you put one on the ground, maybe less. :)
My dad is beating bucks away today , if you can get in the woods get there now!
Way to go rick great season congratulations
Bob tell him to chase them up to Allegany Co. I'm not seeing anything in the woods, but on the roads there all over the place. I think tonight was my 10th or 11th sit in a row and not seeing a deer.
Gerald it's slow here too , there was too much shell corn in the area so they aren't hitting acorns like usual
I have great news I'm excited to pass along! Will post up some photos after dark....
Well today my endurance failed and after letting a lot of young bucks walk I broke down and shot a fat 5pt. He stood broadside to me at 18yds and I knew I could take him clean so I did.Fifty yard dash and I watched his fall.I'm a little sad that I'm done with the peak time just starting but I'm glad to have had so much fun time in the woods and 2 quick ,clean harvests.I won't miss climbing trees twice a day, that old LONE WOLF climber is wearing me down; time to use ladders or at least my sit and climb Summit ! The big ones should be moving now, my wife had a 4pt and 8pt chase a doe past her yesterday, so go get 'em guys . GOOD LUCK.
A bird in the hand . . .
Congratulations. They are ALL trophies.
He gave all he had.
Congratulations Marvin any deer with a stick bow is a trophy in my book. Looking forward to the pics Jim All I saw were bucks today Looking for a doe so tonight I'm going to a totally different spot and hunting off my Big Jim tree seat.
Congrats Marvin glad you were able to fill your tag and have fun in the process. I had a big mature 8pt cross the road in front of me 2 fields down from the wood lot I hunt , they are on the move.
Congratulations Marvin, a clean kill and meat in the freezer out ways big horns any day for me
Congrats Marvin, James looking forward to your update
Health problems kept me out of the woods for all of October. Sat. am I had a spike at 12 yards that bolted when my arrow came of the shelf. This buck his time coming down the trail playing havoc with my nervous system. Different stand Sat. afternoon deer around me for hours. Great day total 13 deer 3 bucks. Sunday am in high mt. stand saw broken horn buck a daylight very windy. Tues. am in new stand close to home around 8am 6 pointer in thicket in front of me close walks up ridge to a doe that I did not see. I put my hand in vest and use my fawn bleep can the deer had no reaction but a spike shows up looking in my direction. I take the bleep can all the way out of my vest and do one loud bleep. All of once the doe on ridge runs to me with the 6 pointer .Keep in mind my nerves are gone. I am standing I am trying my best to stay calm. I go to draw my bow and behind my tree a buck steps out fast at 15 yards. It all happen so fast. Once again the arrow came off the shelf. I try to steady my nerves and do a good shot. Well I rather be lucky then good. Stand up blood trial 8 pointer. I like to say hi to all my friends and to wish them luck. Be safe Dan
Congratulations Dan
I have great news I'm excited to pass along! Will post up some photos after dark....
:campfire:
Waiting for good news! :archer:
You are blessed Dan....... :notworthy: I spent few hours this afternoon to try and see a deer....any deer. But alas my luck has gone south. It is getting very hard to get ready to go out when time after time you nothing. I can only watch brown leaves so long........I'm not seeing any activity in the woods......very few song birds, squirrels and even Blue Jays are not around much for the times I have been out. Just was not meant to be........
You need to take a nap, Ron... It works for me!!!
Not that I usually actually kill anything.....
But I usually end up seeing deer!!!
(Btw... They seem to be REALY curious about snoring?)
I have spent many a time napping, not long but a few minutes at time........it did not work for me.
double post
congrats Marvin and Dan , lets hear it James

So One of our very own... Knawbone aka David Bentley of Corning NY Shot this great buck on his own wild land this morning at about 7am. Most of you know David and I'm happy to call him a good friend. This big for his area 6 with a broken tine is his best bow buck to date with a 16" inside spread.
He was hunting out his favorite tree stand on his hill and this buck came directly under him for a 5 yard shot from his hemlock. He had bought a Caribow long bow while we were at Denton Hill this year and hunted with that bow this morning. I asked him if I could post his pictures here as he has not been active on the site for a couple years now. He sends a hello and best wishes to all!

David was hunting with Shurwood wood arrows he made up with goose feathers & broadheads he crafted himself.
Congratulations Marvin and Dan!!!
How Many are we up to Gerald? :)
Wow pass along our congratulations
Good job Marv on number 2, don't be sad you've had a good season so far.
Very well done David........what no Hill bow??? lol......it was good to see you at Denton Hill.
Dan, Congrats! I was hoping you would post! It was a beautiful buck!!!!
David, Congrats on your buck. I have been wondering where you have been.
Ok David's buck makes 6, and Marv's buck makes 7 for the WNY guys Congrats to you David.
Very nice!
Those arrows of David's are sweet. Medieval looking!
Congratulations to David
Nice deer--good job!
Awesome buck
Congratulations !!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! To all my NY Brothers!!!!!
Congrats!
Congratulations to Dan and Dave! Dave I've been wondering how you've been .
Good job Dave. I like that arrow and broadhead you put together.
congrats David
Great to see everyone's success! We still have a little over a week before the orange army takes over and it looks to be the best week yet. I'll be out tomorrow trying to fill a doe tag and it looks like 23 degrees and possibly snow ooh yaa...
Good luck Bob, I'm going to move a stand this morning and hunt it this evening. It's brutal here this morning I had to go out and salt the roads.
Chilly weekend coming Boys!!!!!
The Bucks will be runnin'.....
Wow! I forgot what cold was! I didn't have the right gear only made it till 1030 then I had to move. After today only 2 days left to hunt for me before the guns go off.
It sure is cold but the deer don't seem to mind. Had a ten pointer come in this morning while I watched him with my doe tag in my pocket, can seem to find a doe but the bucks keep finding me .
Here is Dan's buck

Nice Buck Dan congratulations
I had a big eight 15 paces this morning but no doe
Congrats Dan !
Had the good fortune to be invited to Bob Browns camp Friday and Saturday to hunt with Bob and his Dad. I also saw the big 10 that Bob saw but he stayed about 75 yards away and wouldn't respond to a grunt or doe bleat. Saw a hand full of other deer including a very wide and tall 8 pt.
nice buck Dan , congrats
Well my season ended Saturday without a deer seen, tough season in my neck of the woods. Feel very fortunate to make the one opportunity I had count.
Always hard when you burn your either sex tag first, seems like all ya see after that are bucks!
Congratulations Dan! Nice buck!
Still trying-- slim pickin's this year for me....
Congrats Dan! :clapper: :clapper:
I'm with you Susan. Not seeing a lot of deer in my area at all. Still have a little over a month left though.
Congrats Dan !! :clapper:
Was able to take off work on Thursday but didn't see a deer until I was heading back from lunch and a nice buck ran right in front of me. Hunted from 1:00pm to dark and didn't see another deer.
Went out on Saturday and the conditions were nice and cold and I saw a few does but not close enough for a shot. Moved to a new stand and at 12:50pm had a nice ten point chase a doe in front of me. Of course the buck stopped at 25 yards behind a big thick bush and didn't give me a shot and then took off again. Planning on hunting all day Saturday this weekend.
It's been a weird year on Long Island with not many deer seen at my best spots.
This has been a very frustrating season for me, but I finally got it done. After 7 misses I finally put my tag on a small buck. My family and I can't be happier with it. A healthy lil' 4 pointer taken at 5 yards. I can't seem to figure out how to post pics anymore. :dunno:
Congrats Michael!!!
Congratulations Mike I've been waiting to see what you were going to get this year. I feel your pain and frustration with this season.I missed the same buck on two different days, shot under the first time and hit a small twig I didn't see the following week.
Well tomorrow's it I'll be heading out with my son for our last hunt in the morning, been my slowest year in 34 years of bow hunting. It ain't over til it's over.
I'll have to admit that I kind'a gave up, but it has been 2 seasons now that haven't seen a deer with a bow in my hand hunting. But maybe I'll go out in the late season just to take the bow for a walk.
congrats Mike
Killed a nice 7pt buck this afternoon.
Came in following a doe around 4pm.
Complete pass thru with short recovery,
Great day and a great pleasure to have my close friend here with me.
Last day, last hour.
Congrats Philip :bigsmyl:
Congratulations Mike & Philip!
congrats Philip , how about a pic ?
Thanks guys.
I'm unable to upload pics.
If someone can post for me I'd appreciate the assistance.
Thanks
Congratulations Phillip
Philip, congratulations, good for you.
Shick
Congrats Phillip!
A great end to early archery Philip congratulations! The end of archery puts me a funk for awhile but I'm already planning stand sites for next year and counting the days to October 1st
Like Phil I too was blessed with a chance on the last day, killed a fat 5 point on Friday morning on state land.
So here's the tally for the WNY gang Mike makes 8 and me 9 for early bow. Congrats you guys. I've got pics but need a go between.
Phillips fine buck!

A big congratulations to you Gerald.
Shick
Congratulations Gerald !!!
Gerald
Congrats Gerald
Congratulations Phillip and Gerald.
One of the two nice bucks I had been eyeing pre season that vanished for bow season stopped by last night for gun season. ;-)
Better late than never.
Congrats Gerald
congrats , Gerald
Congrats Charlie of course I don't know what for ;)
Thanks all, it was a sloooow season for me. He was the 12th deer I saw all bow and the only shot I had. My 13 year old son was with me and he stopped at 5 yards but my son didn't shoot because he was looking at him so , he moved off to 14 yards and I took him. Shot him with my 50# Thunderhorn and old Bear greenie with bleeder. Only went 50-60 yards, maybe lived 7-8 seconds max.
Congratulations Gerald
What a great hunt Gerald!
Nice job on the last day bucks. Anybody toughing it out in the the snow this week with a bow ? I have to admit I'll be out with the smokepole and not the recurve.
swampbow, I'm heading back up to Bath tomorrow weather permitting; Will get a 1 1/2 days in, my last push for the year. Leaving the bear td home, and giving my old Bighorn some exercise.
Shick
I'm so excited my buddy has soy beans he planted and deer are hammering them and at least one of the big guys made it through gun season . I'll be out with the recurve this weekend and may even use a sick day I Love late season and snow !
I hoping to get out on Thurs with my longbow, I just hate to see it end. I usually spend the last night of the last day with bow in hand reflecting on the season, and just maybe have some luck.
Shick put that Ramhunter to work!!
longrifle, I'm just looking at the Ramhunter now. Haven't used it much this year. Will surely give it some exercise next year. thanks. Wapiti, good luck to you.
Shick
I'm still grinding it out with the Stalker. I have until the end of the month and I'll probably hunt a little in January in Ct. deer activity has slowed way down since thanksgiving and it seems the only deer offering me shots and 1.5 and 2.5 year old bucks. I filled my one buck tag with my wheels on a buck I've been after for years, so it'll take a real special one to get my second tag. I almost did just before thanksgiving, but I hit a branch I didn't see on a solid 130" 8 pointer. I'm hoping to fill one more doe tag before the end of the season.
Congratulations to everyone who has filled a tag and keep grinding to those who haven't.
Well, after talking with my buddy Tim in Bath, we decided I would not travel today; Wednesday seems like 'a sit by the fireplace' day. Let the storm finish and go up on Thursday. Will keep you posted.
Shick
Good to see a few who tough it out.......I threw the towel in a while back. Just didn't have the desire.......
Good luck guys. With temps slightly above 0 and negative wind chills, add super spooky, mostly nocturnal deer and a full freezer, I am done this year.
Good luck guys! I certainly miss the milder temps and long bow but its a smoke pole weekend for me in Corning NY
I was out Sunday evening and almost had a shot at a six pointer following a doe but she winded me and he stopped right behind a laurel bush for ten minutes and then turned and followed the doe. Plan on hunting again this weekend but this has been a real bad year for me. The acorn crop was terrible in my spots and the spots that had acorns were very crowded.
Good luck guys
