OK Gang...In YOUR opinion, what is the best "short" longbow 60" or below & why ?
Thanks
Only had one. A Shrew Classic Hunter; If I had to have a sub 60", I would be satisfied with one again.
For me, Gregg Coffey built ElkHeart - no doubt...
Rando
Can't go wrong with Big Jim Thunderchild.
Primal tech
I've tried a few, but my favorite is a Kanati.
I haven't shot many but it's my Toelke Pika for me.

Centaur
Centaur carbon elite for me. Smooth and fast, quiet as a church mouse.
Bigfoot Sasquatch hybrid, but my definition of best may differ from yours. She is a high performance hybrid that is also quiet and dead in the hand on release.
Javaman elkheart for me or one of Gregg's classic hunters.
The only sub-60" bow I have is a 56" Kanati.
I think it is outstanding, and really surprising. It is smooth as can be to my 28" draw, does not pinch my split fingers, has no hand shock that I can perceive, and throws arrows hard that I can't reasonably shoot arrows tuned for bows with 3# more weight, and points so naturally & easily. After this hunting season, it will be my primary.
Anyone tried the Striker Sport or the Sarrels Black Hills 2 ?
I own and shoot a 62" carbon elite Centaur right now, it is the bow I will never part with. That being said, the best 60" or shorter longbow I have ever shot was a 60" Kanati. I would own one again.

I just took delivery of a Two Tracks Ogemaw. It's 58", reflex deflex. I absolutely love it. It's quiet, shot great first time in my hands and is the shortest bow I've ever tried.
At 28" I was afraid of finger pinch. No problem there. I love it.

Really like my 2 Wild Horse Creeks!

Gotta agree with Mitch on this one !!!
Don't forget to think of cari-bow, abes bows are sweet. I bought one last year and have been a recurve guy for the previous 30. His slynx long bow is really nice and it's a 60
Shrew!!
BigJim Thunderchild
Don't know what best is. Don't overlook a 60" one piece LB made by Big River ( John McDonald). It is pretty nice ( looking and shooting).
I'm still on a quest to find the best one for me but after I've shot them all and can make an honest assessment.....I'll let you know. :D
Actually, I hope that I never find the holy grail, most of my fun comes from testing them out. Variety is the spice of life!

Have to agree here. My 58" Ogemaw is great for me even with a 30" draw!! Love it as well.
Mark
I've got a 60" BigJim Buffalo that shoots great.
I LOVE my Toelke Pika

I agree as well. Mike Treadway makes a fantastic shooting short bow!
The new Shrew Classic Hunter II 56"
The Shrew is one bow I've always wanted to shoot but haven't even had the chance to hold. I don't think you could go wrong with that Shrew Classic II.
ive had a bodnik slick stick, 2 rich emery sticks, a crow creek, striker, and a big jim. I would pick a slick sticks or the emery stiks over the others but that's only my personal opinion. rich builds a beautiful bow custom to your specs for a very affordable price. could stand the grip on the striker. couldn't shoot the big jim for anything. and the crow creek just didn't perform for me.
MY toelke pika is my favorite. It is the smoothest of my short bows. I have a 56" shrew classic hunter and two Big Jims Thunderchilds 56" and 58" but the toelke is the best feeling and shooting bow of the group, it is a 54" bow 51@28
I shoot a Great Northern Lil Creep that I adore.
I've shot most and the JavaMan Elkheart is the best all around hunting bow. The best customer service too!
Only sub 60" model that I've shot listed in this thread is the Great Northern Lil Creep. Impressive for a short mild R/D longbow
i gotta go for the hill country bobcat, nothing but good luck with mine.
There are a lot of options and you will have endless choices but lately the Big Jim Thunderchild has been my go-to for several years.
Sponsor "Two Tracks" builds a dandy bow that will fit the bill! Chuck built Shrew bows for Ron for a while and also has offered a great ASL (ECHO). I had the opportunity to shoot the ECHO at the Great Lakes Longbow Invitational in Michigan (GLLI) a couple years ago...
Chuck is currently building a dandy "shortie"...look for the recent post here in the Pow Wow...
for me 56 in toelke pika and 60 in whip hs smooth fast quiet I have shot a lot of bows and I really like the way dans bows perform with really great customer service

The Bobcat is absolutely sensational. Blazing quick little longbow that is as quiet as my Howard Hill. Can't beat the added mass of the 3pc configuration. Build quality right up there with the best of the best. I love all the other shorties but somehow I ended up with the Bobcat last and it is a new benchmark. Huge fan of the Thunderchild and Pika also, in a 2pc those would be a top choice along with an Elkheart or Shrew. The Bobcat and Pika get extra points from me because both bowyers have a short wait time.
Here's mine. It is basically a baby Habu if I had to describe it:

I am a big fan of this 54" Pika

I do like my Holm-Made 60" Osprey....Dave
I had a Horne Busbow 3-pc. T/D 60" bow,it was a fantastic shooter, grip fit great and I shot it very well. And it was beautiful, bacote and birdseye maple! I also loved shooting my Kanati 60",it shot great very forgiving and pointable with it's forward grip.
If I was looking for a 60" long bow I would buy a Abe Penner made "Slynk". Can't say enough good things about my Cari-bow, 62" "Peregrine" long bow, or my 60", "Tukta EX" recurve. Abe's Cari-bows are all outstanding performers.
I have a 56" Caribow Wolverine.It's a good one as well.
Another vote for Kanati, followed closely by the TOELKE pika. My 56" Kanati changed my way of thinking about short bows.
I have a 60" Striker Stinger. I've sort of rediscovered it recently. Shoots so well for me, it will be going to the woods this deer season.
Don't read a lot about them, and, don't know why, but it's a great bow.
