Yeah it went well. I feel a lot better than I did this time last year. I'm pretty pumped about a couple of bucks I have to go after. Good luck, hope you're able to get a good buck.
Picked up a new longbow this year.Hope to brake it in on something.
Riding a C-130 to Ft Bragg early Sunday morning for a fun filled week of dropping heavies and personnel drops. Probably won't get out until the first of October. .... hope it cools back off again!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
Love that stuff I was crewcheif on A-10s
I may sit out this year......
Yeah right! I won't tear it up til it cools a bit tho.... :)
Things aren't looking good for me getting out... at least not early season.
God bless,Mudd
Good to hear Jake!!
Welcome to the forum Mpaul!
Kenny I don't believe ya.....you'll be out there sweating like me haha
I will prob have to try it a couple times early.... :D
I'll be out Saturday morning behind the house. I can't believe that we've had all this cool weather and then it decides to heat up right when the season opens.
It's a good feeling going into our season with fresh meat already in the freezer. Takes the pressure off. I just hope the kids aren't too disappointed that Santa is short a reindeer this year.
Darren
Way too hot for me. I probably won't go for another month.
Yep, I don't want to sweat it out and deal with meat at 90 *
I never thought I would hear Scott Hesterly say he didn't want to hunt. Sigh...another hero bites the dust.
Darren
Anybody get out this morning. I shouldve, but I decided to get some chores done around the house. I'll be going tomorrow sometime.
Our season starts in 2 weeks and the weather should be as normal...Lows in the upper 60's and highs in the lo-mid 90's. We have great weather the past week with lows in the low 60's and highs in the mid 80's but this will change back to normal in a couple of days.
Best of luck to all. You can't shoot anything when you are sitting on the couch.
Short hunt this morning. Nothing seen including squirrels.
Hunted a couple hours this morning.. Rabbits and squirrels kept me company, it's early! I was in a Shingle Oak and the acorns fell on me all morning...
https://imgur.com/a/gJv1x
I'll be in the woods Saturday evening... sitting on some acorns!
I went opening morning and saw 15 deer. I was surprised with how hot it was.
Been seeing some deer despite the injun summer here!
Maybe the right one will show up this morning....
Good luck boys
Tim B
Waiting for a cool down!!
I went out 3 times behind my house this weekend and had animals around me every time. I missed two turkeys Saturday morning. The first one was just a flat miss. The second one I got help from a little hickory tree in front of me.
Here is some video I shot of a fork horn and a gobbler Sunday morning. It's a good thing that I have fresh meat already in the freezer or this deer would have been skewered instead of videoed. Man, he sure does love his acorns!

Nice vid Darren - thanks for sharing
We are having a bonefide heat wave here- don't forget your thermacell boys ha
I'm after them again this eve....good luck to those huntin
I hit some public tracts close to home opening weekend. Saw nothing but other hunters. Sweated my butt off to. If it stays hot like this I am going to try for an evening sit over a watering hole I know.
Shot a ol'mule-headed doe last night boys.
Anyone else have any luck this weekend?
Tim B
I was in South Carolina, but I guarantee you I will be at it this coming weekend. I'm chomping at the bit.
I was out on Saturday morning. Nothing moving near me. I pulled some camera cards and saw they were hitting some water sources in the evening. 90+ degrees was too much for me in the afternoons. This weekend is going to be pretty good for the weather, at least here in the South central Ozarks.
Yep gonna cool enuff to get on em
Had a really cool encounter last evening. With the weather the way it is I decided to hunt over water. I set up facing north where I expected deer to come from near a water hole that seems to hold water year round. It is a a hidden spot not shown on maps it's so small right on top of a ridge. Wind was blowing gently from the south and east. I was sitting in a little natural ground blind 15 yards off the trail I know they use with several scrapes. Lol well naturally the first deer of the night showed up right at 7pm for a cool drink just as I thought the would. Except the approached from the eastern side of the ridge and wound up behind me and to my right. I had a big old pile of brush to my back and they were only 12-15 yards away so I was stuck. Little 60lb yearling and a nice mature old doe. I watched them drink and nose around for about 20 minutes before the wind started blowing. Well you guys know how this ends. It was really cool though. Big mama doe starts sniffing and looking and around the stomping slowly then faster. Next thing I know she's blowing her head off screaming hunter! hunter! Ha! I didn't mind that was my first close encounter of the year and a great one! Scent control is hard when it's 92 degrees! lol I think I lasted so long because I actually dipped my shirt in that water and put mud from it on my neck and arms. Too cool!
Going real old school there Jakeemt - covering yourself with mud lol neat encounter - stay after'em
Good luck boys
You boys after them? The heat and the moon ain't helpin but it's gonna get better. Wind is outta the N for this evening at least
Tim B
Had 4 does at 40 last nite, they turned right instead of left .....
The rain kinda made that pop-up blind pay for it's self yesterday morning and had a close encounter with a bobcat that was fun. Got in the stand early with the cooler temps and a miserable morning I figured the deer laid-up most of the morning and afternoon. Saw the first deer movement at 4 and ended up seeing a dozen or better deer. Had this big doe slip in behind me and didn't think I was gonna get a shot but if she would go a few more feet to the left and I would keep my bow straight instead of canted I could do it. She inched just far enough.....thwack - that tigershark zipped through both lungs and she only made it 50yds before she piled up. Big doe from around here - she weighed 124 field dressed.
Tim B
Congrats Tim..... but if there ain't a picture it didn't happen :biglaugh:
Lol y'all know I'm stoopid at this point haha
Send me a email address and I'll give ya a pic
Tim B
Congrats Tim. I was in Bollinger county at our farm yesterday evening and had a good hunt. I had one of the bucks we are after at 100 yards and saw a couple other small bucks. I watched him get up out of his bed. The next time I get the right wind to slip in on his bed he may end up in the back of the truck.
Thanks boys -
Jake ya may have seen me skinning on yer way back home....good luck w that buck!
I had a small 5 pt feed under me a bit last night - then had a decent deer come out to the N but never got a good enough look at him as he was in some thick stuff.
Tim B
I'm hunting freezer fill now, if I can get off this dang combine long enough.
Had a real nice buck out at 50 last night.
Seen a few more does too but no shots
They are starting to move
Tim B
Yep, they are getting around more. Cooler weather and crops being out plus they are probably tired of acorns! LOL
Come on Tuesday. Last day of work is Monday and don't go back to work until the 9th. I'm getting antsy.
That's gonna be a nice vacation Jake! Good luck!
Saw 12 deer including 3 small bucks - 2 were pushing each other around playing last evening.
Tim B
Seen a few doe n fawn yesterday evening fairly early. Then at last night had a lone doe come out and a minute behind her was a pretty good buck. She went down the draw and he worked his way to me. He worked a scrape behind some brush and when he came out in the clearly arrow was gone.
I waited till dark and found the fletch half of arrow and got 12" of penetration. I backed out till 8pm. Had poor blood and figured I had hit him in the shoulder. After 50 yards the blood picked up.....
The buck headed down in the thick bottoms through some cane patches and found him piled up in 125 yards.
Hit him low behind the shoulder and burried it in the far shoulder.
I got a few pics if someone can post them for me.....
Tim B
Good job Tim!! I can't help with pics with fone.
Way to go Tim! Can't wait to see pics.
Hunted this morning. Had 2 bucks and 5 does in range. Did not shoot any because there was a brute of 7 point watching them from the thick stuff 50 yards out. He never came close enough. Its getting good brothers!
I botched an opportunity at a big cow of a doe this evening. I didn't see her coming until it was too late and she pegged me at 7 yards. Oh well, I'll be at it again tomorrow.
Congrats tim
Thanks boys
Stay after them and good luck
Tim B
Man Tim you are layin em down . You gotta learn how to post pics bro!!
Haha I know it Kenny - all I got is my phon tho lol
Better at shootin stuff than this techno stuff
That buck was #6 which is by best season yet plus that was my best bow buck

Tim B's buck
Darn right, nice deer!! I can't get the fone pic thing either.....
Thanks for posting Jake!
Thanks Kenny!
Tim B
Tim,
Nice Buck, congrats!
Nice buck Tim congrats boy is he wide
Nice buck Tim. Been hit and miss for me the last two weeks as far as movement. Had two good nights. Been splitting my time between Adair Co on my lease and Jefferson at my brothers house.
Nothing has been doing the last week or so. 2 weeks ago I had the buck I wanted in the food plot I expected but he decided to jump the fence at a different spot than I willed him to in my mind. Apparently my Jedi tricks are no match for deer. He stayed at 40yds for 20min. Doh!
congrats Tim
Thanks boys!
I gotta go help a land owner w some gates this morning - good luck to those huntin - should be a Cracker Jack morning!!
Tim B
We hunted our new farm this morning. Had a doe come by, but she was a little small. Fixing to head back out.
Just buckled into my stand and I'm covered up............with squirrels! Fun to watch anyway!
I missed a chip shot at a hen this morning. Can't help but laugh at myself. The wife and I took the evening off from hunting to get a few chores done and rest up a bit. We will be back at it again tomorrow morning.
Had a doe out at 25 last night but she wouldent work in closer.....
Good luck boys
Tim B
No deer for me this morning. My wife had a 3.5 year old 8 pointer at the base of her stand and all around this morning, but gave him a free pass.

I've been wanting to contribute to this thread but just have had a few hunts in. I hunt down around Steeleville, MO.
Last Sat morning hunted for several hours and just saw a coyote at about 100 yds. Sat eve had a nice fat doe come by about 5:30. Heart shot her and she took off 100 miles an hour. It got quiet real quick but never heard her go down. Waited a while and an older doe with a young one out of spots came by.
I shot her low and tight and had a lot of arrow hanging out so was a little worried. I could see my four fletch orange arrow about 30 yds from the hit. Took up the trail and the arrow was broken off about 6 or 7 inches of past the point. Followed some blood and the front part of the arrow with the broadhead was about 15 yds further. Just about 25 yds more blood trail and there she was. Didnt go 50 yds. Must have died on the dead run or stopped and died. Arrow must have struck the far shoulder / leg bone and came out.
Wifey got bonus wife points helping with pics and the recovery as well as a big pot of chili back at the cabin.
Got her hung up (deer not wife :) and it got down to 25 overnight Had a deersicle in the morning. :)
Just getting into the Igmur thing but havent got it yet. Would post some pics if I can email them to someone to post for me.
Forgot to add that she walked by a game cam 10 seconds before the shot. That was pretty neat...
Attaboy John!! Love shootin a double - as long as I can get the wheeler to them ha
Had some longbeards swagger by last night at about 50 yds - and then a 130" 8pt fed on acorns at about 60.....he was fun to watch - had a doe slip behind me but she took the wrong trail.
Tonight should be another good night....weather is great
Tim B
Just read my post and it does seem like I shot a double kinda. Just shot the first doe. That's enough for me to handle in one night!

Man,I just missed another turkey. Only had a head to shoot at about 20 yards. I swear I must've trimmed some hairs.
Those turkeys are tough targets!
We are hunting our new farm this morning. We had a very tempting 3.5 year old 8 point come by, but he got a free pass. Maybe next year. We are looking for a couple of old bucks that frequent the place, or a mature doe.
X2 on the turkeys - I've only managed to kill one from the ground.....
Stay after them Jake!
Hopefully the rain will pass and I'll be after them again tonight
Tim B
I'm gonna be done combining beans this weekend, so may have time to hunt again! :bigsmyl:
We dang near got a doe off the ground on the way back to eat lunch. I heard a deer coughing/sneezing and we stalked in on her. She got within 10 yards but she needed to take 2 more steps. Well, she didn't and she busted us. Oh well, it was a cool experience.
That's cool Jake!
Kenny it's too wet to combine! Let's hunt!
I'm headed to the coyote tree......
Tim B
So so close this evening. I had the buck I'm after at 5 yards, but never got a shot. Man is he a dandy.
Last night was one of the few hunts I I did't even see a deer - heading back out here after some coffee....
Tim B

Here is the buck from last night.
That's a dandy Jake!!
I had a doe at 20-25 last night and she just locked up and stayed there for ever- almost 30min - staring and head bobbing in all directions - finally she backed out
Tim B
I didnt see anything yesterday evening, but my wife was really close to killing a big one. It was just a little too dark.
Bucks seem to be on their feet in day now up here. Bro had a goodun come in last nite and went past at 8 yards. No shot, combo of walking straight in,turning in to the brush and not stopping in the one little lane in the brush. :p
The only chance I had was a big doe who picked me off from a distance before I saw her, she came on thru nervously at 20 but I let her walk. She was too fast for my bow I know! LOL
Figured it would lead to a long night trail......
I had a real nice 8 pt skirt me at 40 yards last night. .... I'll be back in the tree in the morning!
Good luck, shoot straight and God bless,
Rodd
More close calls today, with mature bucks and mature does. I'm getting awfully close.
Congrats on all the connections thus far.
Headed out tonite to bowhunt the next three days. Best time of year.
Good luck to all!
Another big mature buck today at 50 yards. Never made it my way.
Here is the buck from this morning.

Yup he's big and mature :biglaugh:
A beast!
Stay after him!!!
Tim B
That's a nice'un , good luck !!
I'm hunting at our new farm this morning. Had a decent 8 come close but never had a shot. Im not sure whether or not I would've shot him anyways. Good to see a few deer though.
Gonna be back in a stand this evening...seen a good buck in the open driving to town this morning - should be a good night
Tim B
I did a quick hunt on public this morning looking to make meat for the freezer. A spike got a few hairs trimmed off the top of his back. My vacation is over now, but I will still have some time to hunt. I'll be back at it on Saturday.
Well, after a slow start to my season, I've connected on back to back sits. I killed a buck with a rifle the 1st day of gun season, then connected with this doe this morning. I'll be back at it again in the morning before we go eat lunch.
(http://i.imgur.com/q2Q2Xhn.jpg) (https://imgur.com/q2Q2Xhn)
That's a nice big doe!!!!
Congrats
Attaboy Jake!!!
Tim B
I killed a little fat four point the evening before gun season. Only shot I've had this year and I wanted some meat. Between family stuff, my sons wedding and my knees, hunting time has been pretty scarce this year. Knee surgery is next week so I'm hoping for maybe one more hunt for the year.
congrats Jake and Daniel
Way to go Dan! Where's the pics?
Well done Kenny! I'm gonna try for another doe tomorrow morning.
Attaboy dannyboy!!!!
And congrats again Kenny!!
Tim B
I went for a doe this morning and missed a good buck. Hit a little limb I couldn't see and it dove down right under him.
Tried to trick them this morning but they tricked me instead....had some turkeys get dangerously close tho...and found a cool 8pt ded head from last year on my walk out
Maybe I can trick them tonight
Tim B
Good luck Tim. I have to work this evening and again tomorrow, but I'll be back after them on Thursday and Friday.
Well my plan was to go ahead and take another doe to fill my 2nd statewide tag.....but the buck I've been after showed up again. I saw him on Sunday and Monday evenings. Both times he was within 100 yards. I'm gonna stay after him until January and then go for a doe if I don't get him before that.
