I have a Predator 48# @ 28", and I draw to 31". So I'm drawing about 56#. My arrows are Gold Tip 340s with a weight of 587 grains with 200 grain heads. My nock height is 3/8" above, and my brace height is 7.5". (I have played around with brace height from 7.25" all the way to 8.25". 7.5" seems to be the "most quiet." I have a D97 16 strand string with Bow Hush wraps and beaver fur silencers on it.
I have come to the conclusion that this string just simply will not be quiet enough. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a string? :help:
I have a 60" 55 lb Predator. I've tried D-97, BCY-X and 8190. So far D-97 is the quietest string on my bow but it also stretches the most.
I'm going to try a string made of Fury next.
Try a D10 made by SBD (Silent But Deadly). He is on the sponsors list.
Tuning is the #1 factor in getting a bow quiet, along with bow design. Then it's arrow weight, your release, nock fit, silencer type and placement, etc.
My current personal favorite material is BCY-X, 18-20 strands.
There's a FAQ page on my site that might answer some questions (link is in my sig line). If you have a question that isn't covered, just let me know and I'll give it a shot (no pun intended).
1o ring strings has a Fury string that is a terrific string.
BCY X is my favorite with Mercury closing the gap the more I shoot and work with it.
Thanks LBR, I think I have about eliminated all of the other variables outside of the string. That's the only thing I haven't changed or tweaked on the bow, and it has considerable noise. It's a great shooter.. I just have to figure out how to quieten it down!
Some bows just won't get as quiet as you want. Generally speaking, a well made string will be pretty quiet regardless of the material. Once in a while you might run across a bow that is "picky" about string material type, or even strand count, but that's not the norm.
I like the strings from SBD about as well as anything I've tried. They shoot a little faster than most though that isn't my goal. What I like about them is they tend to be pretty quiet, they don't stretch as bad as other strings I've tried, and they are a sponsor here that donates to St. Jude's EVERY year. Pierre is a true gentleman and makes a great and consistent product. He gets my business regularly.
Ten ring!
Thanks everybody. I might just try them all!
Whenever I get a chance to give a plug for SBD strings I do it ,great strings built by a great gentleman .Over the years I think I've ordered 57 strings from Pierre, there flawless you won't be disappointed.
