Just got back from South Africa and what a trip! This was my kudu. All animals were taken with my Deer Slayer model sinew backed osage bow and Grizzly broadheads on a Wilderness Custom arrow. Got a complete pass through and he went 80 yards after a heart shot. I hunted with Sofala Safaris and was impressed with the operation! This was the only animal that I took with a broadhead other than the Grizzly 185 and I used a 125 Grizzly on this one with a 100 grain woodyweight up front.

This Gemsbok went 80 yards after a double lung hit. Grizzly head centered a rib going in and still went to the other side before stopping. He went 80 yards as well and we found it the next morning. I was using 185 Grizzly heads with 100 grain woodyweights up front on Wilderness Custom Arrows except for the one hog.
AWESOME!!!!

This Impala was dropped in his tracks when the Grizzly head shattered the shoulder going in!

This warthog went about 100 yards after a quartering away shot took out a lung.
Fantastic! Congrats!

I took two bows just about alike. Both sinew backed osage and 60@26. Took three with one bow and the other two with the other.
That was a great hunt you had. Congratulations on the success.
Beautiful animals!
Congrats Mike!
What a great hunt and thanks for sharing but would hate to have that taxidermy bill.

My PH messaged me yesterday and said that my kudu would make the SCI record book. He was also impressed with the way that my primitive bows performed on the big bodied African animals. This kudu was taken with a sinew backed osage bow 60@26 with a Grizzly single bevel head, making for a complete pass through going only 80 yards after a heart shot.
Way to go Mike! I'm sitting at the airport in Atlanta waiting for my flight home. We just spent 10 days hunting in SA and it was a blast!!!! My buddy got a Cape buffalo with his recurve, and we both got a slew of other critters!
Bisch

Thanks guys for all the compliments. I would go into more detail about the hunts but have committed to the Primitive Archer and the African Bowhunter magazines for stories, so please check out the Primitive Archer for those up coming stories and if your in Africa the African Bowhunter.
This truly was a great hunt in which my sinew backed osage bows proved to those questioning their place on an African hunt, that they can not only perform but in many cases out perform other types of bows. Quietness and cast being two of the main advantages.
Thanks again,
Mike

I took 4 bows on this trip, two sinew backed 60 lb osage bows, a 63 lb selfbow and a 56 lb glass bow.
I never took the glass bow out and killed all the animals with the two sinew backed osage bows.
