http://mstradbowhunters.webs.com/
We need a new updated website and domain!!!
Ok Joey what's required to join?
I'd be interested!!
I'm in! :wavey:
I am defiantly in.
I would go early 2018!
I was a member...you musta kicked out us Yankees :) Miss you bud!
I'm in Starkville through June and would definitely be interested.
Life member here, unless like Mike said, You got rid of all the Yankee members. I was actually thinking the other day what was going on with you and Brucker.
i would be in.
Possibly...but I can't do anything at the first of the year.
I'm in.
I joined the first time around.... I would hope I am still a member. Would be interested in getting together for a hunt.
I would participate. Retired now so I have time to do the hunts.
Tom Branyan
Joey,
I joined when the site started up but did not participate due to work. Now retired would participate if event is planned. Thanks.
Tom Branyan
what's an out of state license run if there is a hunt?
I just signed up. Didn't see much action on the events pages. We need to try to arrange a hunt with the Louisiana Traditional Bowmen so we can all get to know each other.
Alright! let me find Brucker> You got his # Matt?
ya'll be kicking around some Public places we can set up a camp.
Sounds good to me. I'm in.
Ok, I've signed up and paid my membership fee
I can suggest some public spots but it depends on if you guys wanna fool with a bunch of hogs or just go after deer. If you want hogs delta national forest is full of em and so is panther swamp and hillside refuge. For bigger deer the homochitto would be an option as well.
Don't have Bruckers number anymore. He started his own business and he and his wife had a couple kids. He's been busy for the last couple years.
Panther Swamp in Mississippi is suppose to be a good bowhunting location. We hunted the Yockanookany Management area last time we had a hunt. One of the guys killed a doe. Choctaw Wildlife Managment Area is a huge public land area. They have good camping areas also.
Feel free to give me a call. 662-582-6450
Ole Possum say to look into Beinville national forrest lots of Hogs and some say better hunting then the WMA's.
Anybody know anything about it?
It is centrally located in the state for one, but I don't personally know anymore about it.
I have hunted up in the Morgans Brake Hillside area and know there deer and hogs there.
Noxubee Refuge gets very little pressure during archery season and has a great picnic/grilling spot on the lake...
I reckon I'll chime in. Today I was thinking central Ms as a portion of members live up north. That's when Tallahalla came to mind. Primitive camping is free and it;s got hog and deer options.
National forest camping varies from place to place so once we all decide on a general area extra effort can be made to obtain camp rules. Noxubee and Choctaw have both been mentioned and are back to back. I like Hillside as well. Panther has ample game but due to it's popularity is grossly over crowded and the squirrel hunters are like mosquitoes. Ok Daniel here's how it's broke down for non-residents 3 day all game archery 129.29, Deer permit 7.29, WMA permit 32.29.
TTT
I live in Leake County (central), but I'm willing to travel for the better hunting opportunities.
Jonathan, I killed a 10 pt back in the late 80s in Leake Co. a place called Thomastown. We were hunting private land off the Natchez Trace. It was a beautiful place.
Good deer in Thomastown, Possum!
New topic listed on MTB site.
Hey Joebuck, can you post a link? I don't see it.
http://mstradbowhunters.webs.com/
Hey Joey,
Sir, I joined up last week. When should I expect to be updated or added into the site?
Is there something I need to do now to have members access?
Thanks Joey, but I don't see the new post.
south Ms Bowhuntr...good question....it should automatically let you join? do you have access to forums?
JonW ...look under "lets Talk Bowhunting" then "20172018 Rendevous camp hunt"
Found it.
I just paid and signed up.
Jon ... when you paid and signed up...do you have access to the site?
I manually signed up by clicking the "Join site here for free" button after I paid. After I entered my information, I had to confirm my email. Once I did that, I saw a message that said my registration is pending approval.
great! good ole Brucker did a great job.....
south Bowhunter.....read Jon message above. Try the enter site here free button
I signed up and paid as well.
I'm still not able to log into the site to post in the forums though.
I did the same as Jon and now when I try and log in it states access being requested pending approval.
I'm getting the same message when I try to log in.
John you have to allow time for a background check
and hope you dont get pinged for outstanding warrants and convicted felon status :nono:
That could take awhile. Haha just kidding.
APB out for Tradtical Comando on here. He has the secret key!!
I am glad to see that you have renewed enthusiasm Joey. Hunting with you guys is on my to do list but as long as I am encumbered by employment it makes it difficult. I intend to fix that in a couple years. I really should get a t shirt since you have such a cool logo. ;)
I'll be interested, been out of touch for awhile.
Holy cow. Swine is back. Good to see ya brother
Greg!!absolutely...PM me your address please and size. which reminds me.....
Another shout out to our brothers from WI Trad Archers for letting us flip flop their logo and add some redneck touch for our logo.
Hey guys, waiting to find Brucker to unlock the site and get forum working.
Tradtical Commando where are you?
Looks like Tradtical Commando hasn't posted on TG in over a year.
Joey, and others, I hope you don't mind and take this as me jumping in.
Even though as the Supreme Leader of the F. R. O. G team I'm used to giving orders
I found him! ya'll give me a couple days to update site with correct info. My address has changed too ! Murray, i found you check dated 2015.. Gosh you are a patience man. Thank you.......
Thanks SM Bowhunter...by all means LEAD!
Sounds like its kicking back off, look forward to the site being unlocked.
Lets go bowhunting.
I would love for Warren Womack to come to a hunt.
Depending on where/when the get together is in 2018, I'll do my best to make it, as it is, I'm planning to be hunting in Mississippi next year already.
I think mississippidude knows some good spots in Homochitto! hehe
Haha. I hear from sources there are some nice deer there. You just have to beat the other six guys there first !!

The pressure has diminished greatly since the dog running has been curbed. A lot of hunting clubs see more pressure than HNF these days.
I've certainly seen some nice deer come out of HNF. There are some great places to camp as well.
Heres some things to thing about planning the camp/hunt we discussed last time.
1. Our out of state members showed a TON of interest to come camp and hunt last time!. Public affordable hog hunting is a huge draw for them.
2. MDWFP Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) Properties: Wild hogs may be taken incidental to hunting activities during any open hunting season with weapons and ammunition legal for that hunting season.
3. If we hunt a WMA , it has to be during deer or turkey season so we can legally hunt hogs.
4. With all that said......we need to have our campout/hunt the last week of deer season IMO on a WMA with hogs.
5. Here's my brainstorm. I am going to get "bow and arrows" legally written up to hunt in Squirrel Season. That way we can legally hunt hogs on a WMA in May and through Feb28TH !... This way we can hog hunt on WMA in FEB for hogs legally with bows and arrows
Glad to see things going in the right direction!
In the past I would google MTB,but could never find the website?
Joey, #4 above sounds like a particularly good idea!
Joey,
I love your thinking on the rule adjustment, and I and all my local trad friends would agree.
Let me know what I and they can do to make this happen.
It is frustrating to be told by local authorities that we have a hog problem and then tie our hands to do anything about it.
I and my friends have even discussed if they would charge a fee to hunt hogs and open year round we would pay.
St. Catherine and Sandy creek are 2 separate WMAs within a few miles of each other. Both are rife with pigs and deer.
Are they rife with rifle hunters also, Swinestalker? :biglaugh:
Didn't they close St. Catherine's a few years ago? I'm not seeing it on the map.

I believe St. Catherine is primitive only. Of course, in MS, primitive is not very primitive. I believe Sandy Creek does allow some modern rifle hunting. But not real sure to be honest. I don't keep up with rifle regs. I know the backside of Sandy creek WMA is directly across the Homochitto river from our property and it is utterly infested with pigs. St Catherine is known for being fabulous public ground.
I talk to Mr. Warren Womack today. He said Sandy Creek would be the best in his opinion. He has had good luck there but he also said the deer population is definitely less than it use to be.

You can hunt those times with a bow now on a WMA The problem we face is limiting us to the use of small game points (no broadheads). That's why turkey season works for pigs because broadheads are acceptible. Certainly have room for change!
Possum. Thinking out loud. Does it say anywhere in State Regs. you can not hunt squirrels with broad heads". Or is this a Fed WMA reg? I know in FED regs it specifically states you can't hunt Small game with broadheads. So our best bet is to hunt a State WMA I think
Swine ... can you touch base with St Catherine manager and find out if we can hunt squirrels with BH. I know it's Fed but he may tell you they would not enforce ! If so. I am all for a mid feb squirrel hunt ( but really hog hunt) at a place loaded with hogs. where could we camp?
I'll be happy to check this out, but gonna be a couple of weeks as I'm headed over the pond.
Travis,
When trying to map quest to St. Catherine NWR it doesn't show on the map? It will take me to Natchez but doesn't show the NWR?
How far out of Natchez is the refuge?
I can't find St. Catherine on the map either. :dunno:
It's spelled saint Catherine creek wma. It's a few miles south of Natchez right on the Ms river.

I've killed tons of deer on Tallahalla, one of the WMAs in Bienville. It's been about ten years since I hunted it seriously though.
Arrow point rules for Small game at St. Catherine....
"Small game may also be hunted with .22 magnum, .17 and .22 caliber rim re ri es, and archery equipment using arrows with points other than broad-heads"
Will try and call their office and see if enforced as Joey Suggested.
Just called, but being Labor Day their office is closed...
I'll try tomorrow if I can get the chance.
Got to go deal with the enemy combatants from last nights
F. R. O. G team raid, thing the Supreme Leader does for his men...
I just signed up and paid my membership fee, I hope you guys don't mind a "Hoosier" being a member, I am from "southern" Indiana...Hehehe
I spoke with my local conservation officer and he told me that it would be illegal to hunt hogs with a bow during a small game only season. He's a buddy of mine so he also let me know that I'd get some really weird looks if I was out and about trying to shoot squirrels with a bow... Not that it would be against the rules, just that it would be odd. I told him that I was a Yankee toting a longbow so I was used to being looked at a little strangely in the Mississippi woods.
Kenny,
I believe there has been several from outside the state join so far, from Michigan, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, etc...more the merrier!
Welcome Kenny!
Weasel, that's pretty funny right there. Wonder what they'd think about a group of us chasing squirrels with Trad gear. Might make the news.
We use to meet at friend's farm in South Ga in 90's and they would host a squirrel bow shoot. They have been doing it for many years.. The Eddie Campbells.. They are EXPERIENCED bow tree rat killers.. They ONLY used broadheads. I have been several times and BH is only way to go but..........to educate Fed or State....good luck... Snuffer with a blunt type point is devestating
MsTrad Bowhunters!! current status.
This is going to happen! ( Hunt Camp)
I need 2 weeks to figure out how to get website unlocked for new members. I am an old plywood salesman and barely know difference between Facebook and Junglebook!!! Site's last administrator did everything. ( i should have been more involved). So i got to call/email contact who actually owns the webiste and unlock it with new passwords!!!! i rather gut a cape buffalo with fingernail clippers than do this! But I'm excited about new interest and lets light this candle.
I am looking forward to being able to share a camp with you guys, my kids are grown and the youngest is in her 2nd year of college, so I am starting to spread my wings and travel a little bit!
Hey Whiskey, 3 years ago I ran into a couple younguns draggin a doe out. They saw my longbow and they said "what's that?", to which I replied, same thing you got there but I've lost my wheels, yall seen em?
I made a call in to St. Catherine, spoke with Julie. I explained what we as a group are wanting to do and the mission of the MS Trad club etc...
Explained our intent to hunt "hogs" during small game season in February.
Explained that we wanted to do what's right legally and ethically, but the state regulations on "no broad heads" places a restriction on us and the states desire to exterminate hogs.
I ask if we could possibly get an exemption or some latitude to use broad heads.
She is consulting others to see if they will. Will contact me later
Ok, just spoke with Nathan at St. Catherine's and it was a no go on use of broad heads during the small game season
Rules are rules pal! :readit: Surely you didn't think you could usurp the letter of the law based on your merits as Supreme leader. You simply cant expect the same respect shown by your subordinates on the frog team pal. You might consider the usual Turkey season approach if you wanna post deer season venture.
Wonder if we could use needles ?
Scout,
I chose to speak with "Julie" after reviewing their personnel directory, as I thought I'd have a better chance to use my keen wit and charm on the feminine persuasion :D
It was working great until she wanted to consult with her co-worker "Nathan" .
It turns out "Nathan" was as stubborn as you and the rest of the F.R.O.G team
Just a word of advice...the more you all talk about a hunting area ONLINE, the more people can easily find the places you are wanting to keep "secret".
Mike, I couldn't agree more. Back that talk up with some good pictures and you'll surely see it over run. There are a few places in Ms. that are flocked with resident and non resident hunters because of over publicizing.
If it were me, I would petition the TG Administration (Terry/Rob) to set up a Tab in the Traditional Club section for all who are interested in this hunt. This way, your discussions would be private and only for club members, and 2nd, I would ask TG Admin to either move this thread to the new Tab, or remove it completely, to get this info gone.
Just my .01, seeing as .02 would cost me to much.
Thanks Mike. I'll email Terry Green and ask him to do that for us.
