It's hot here in Northern California so my boys and I are climbing high next week to chase deer, bear, and hopefully a grouse or 3 with our stick bows and backpacks. On a scouting trip last week, I saw 22 blue grouse in 2 days. We're also bringing fly rods for a high alpine lake that has brookies and rainbows. Camp is 5 steep miles in. Leaving Tues. and coming back Sat. Hope to share some stories with ya'll when we return. Hunting season 2017- Here we go!
Doug,
Good luck, sounds like a great time!
Enjoy every aspect of it Doug!
Here's some photos from my scouting trip:

Sounds like a good time Doug, I miss our Colorado adventures.
Me too. I really miss elk.
...and I miss you too, Night stalker. ;^)
I want to do that trip
This is one of 18 bears that I have seen this year on previous backpacking trips in the wilderness area where we will be: (http://i.imgur.com/vbbfEtl.jpg) (http://imgur.com/vbbfEtl)
Nice......have fun and good luck.
Nice! I'm also going to hunt NorCal this year for the first time but in general season with my recurve (not because I want to but just can't go early enough because of family duties). Saw some fresh tracks of deer on my scouting trip a month ago and saw like 5 doe beds not far from a feeding area.
We are lucky that NorCal has some very fascinating backcountry lands. Good luck and have a great time!
Best of luck, be safe and enjoy. I'll never forget you as the best host a fellow could hope for.
:campfire:
Danshao, have fun. It's usually much nicer weather in the general season. Hopefully, you will be in a spot where you don't have to compete too much with rifle hunters.
Wayne, thank you. Very kind. It was not hard to host gentlemen like you. I do really miss our elk camp.
Just got back from our adventure. No animals harmed but I did call in a bear. He spooked at about 50-60 yds. Will post a few pics. shortly. I think the rest of the season will be front country stuff.
 :clapper:

We had to stop to pick raspberries on the steep hike in.
Great little brookies in a lake 1 mile from camp, caught on a dry fly.

We saw 0 grouse. They just disappeared from 2 weeks ago. There was a fire burning a ridge over from our camp and smoke jumpers jumped into our valley to monitor it. It's kinda strange being in the middle of the backcountry, trying to call in a bear and you look up and see someone parachuting into your drainage.

Nice! Looking forward to getting my son out when he's old enough.
Looking great Doug! Agree with Uncle Wayne. Best hunt ever!
