Does it work and can deer smell it? Anybody on here use it?
Cant live without it sometimes. Doesnt spook game
Yes, yes and yes. But if they are smelling it they likely would have smelled you too. They are great for early season skeeters.
Ya know there was just a thread on this a week or so ago.
Try the search feature, over 15 pages related to therma cells.
Yeah, but mine kinda blew up in my face. Scared the piss out of me.
worth the money
It sure worked awesome in Quebec during Bear Quest.
work great for mosquitos/noseeums/gnats...not yellow flies!!...you're screwed Lol. I can actually see the thermacell vapor sometimes and it makes a good windcheck when I'm too lazy to grab the powder bottle
YES
A product that lives up to the hype, use it almost all season.
Works great and I have never had it effect my hunt. Try to hunt Sika deer on the eastern shore MD without one.
yes
Mine works great.
Won't go into the early season deer woods without it!
Yep, yep, yep.
Never go without it.
Skeeters on my Canada bear hunt would have carried me off and eaten me without one. They work!
Worked for me in Alberta
Terry
Works great for hunting, gardening, berry picking, sitting on the deck. Hunting is just one of its uses. Buy one for everyone in your family. They will thank you.
You bet it does!
I don't go in the woods without it, especially during early deer season in Mississippi!
Yep, definitely.
Worth every penny. Won't go early season in WI. without it.
Yes they work unbelievably well and not just for Skeeters but a lot more things I've had over a dozen none of my blown up I've had some of the quit working cuz I'll beat the crap out of them just generally going around in my car... I've also given away probably a half a dozen.... I wont hunt without one down here if I can help it
A big YES on "does it work".
When I went to Quebec in June Bear hunting on Bear Quest #9 I took 2. Had one under my seat and one over my head. Hunted in a T shirt and no headnet. Never got a bite and when I did it was back at camp and the units were off in my truck. Great product. Skeeters and Black flies......
They work most times. I've been in Florida a time or two where they didnt. I just simply hunt too much for them to be practical, I'd have a fortune in refills.
Mine won't stay lit, if it will light at all, at higher elevations of around 8 to 9 thousand. It does light up and works at my house at 5600.
I was planning on returning it but not until trying it on Florida trips.
I've been using them since they first came out and I like them.
Let me add to the comments already posted:
Once you light it, it takes about 15-20 minutes for it to clear most of the bugs around you.
Also, it's less efficient when there's wind - but then the more wind there is, the less bugs there usually are.
Once in a while when an animal gets a whiff of it, there is some sort of a reaction - ranging from indifference, to curiosity, to not liking it and acting nervous, to being spooked.
When I'm on the move, and the mosquitos are bad, I wear a head net. When I stop to stand for a while, out comes the Thermacell. Makes sitting so much more enjoyable not having the net on...
I take them to AK with 15 boxes of fuel for 10 days. They make a model now for high altitude that stays lit.
yes.
If you look it up on u-tube it will show how to refill the butane bottles. You can also find the mats on the big auction site a lot cheaper than the thermacell refills. The refills are almost as much as the appliance. Denny
Yes it does unless you're in the wind or on the move. It's one of the few gadgets that I think actually live up to the marketing.
I made two bear hunts (Ontario) without the Thermacell. Fought the bugs with duct tape and special clothing.
Then I used this device in New Brunswick a couple of years ago. I was amazed...like magic they work! One of the best values among all the hunting accessories I've used over the years.
I've had them not work a timer to but found the culprit to be pads left in a hot car then try to use them the next year....
I have a different approach.
I simply hunt too much to die of mosquito bites.... :biglaugh:
One of my sets in the lower bottoms is so thick with mosquitos and gnats that I am totally eaton alive at the end of a hunt. I would foregone hunting there and it is my best location.
Since using thermacell, I see the constant fog of bugs all around me but no bites.

Yes sir and that was worth repeating
Yes,, they work amazingly well. They do have a slight odor but if critters smell it then they will smell you. Any not down wind, won't see you swatting at skeeters though.
I bought one when they first came out, folks at the hunt club would smell it and would say "you can't kill a deer with that thing" I told them I can't kill one swatting at skeeters.
They do work , no doubt about it !
Absolutely.
do you have to use a new pad with every use?
Looks like they work. I've been thinking of getting an open front, lean-to type of canvas tent (whelen style) and was worried about bugs at night. A thermal cell might just be what I'd need for camping during bug season. :campfire:
A must have in October in Mississippi, I love mine.
Works great and trust me coastal Texas in sept. will def. put one to the test. Get one , you won't be sorry.
It would be all but impossible to hunt South Georgia without one. I keep the Thermacell in my pack anytime I'm in the woods.
yes! save yu hide literally from a blood transfusion here in the jungles off east NC
Yes they work great. They take a few minutes to warm up, like 20-25 minutes to work against the biting bugs. One thing I did notice though is that they seem to attract yellow jackets and European hornets. Just the experiences my wife and I have had. Still better than bug spray for deer season. For turkey we use bug spray so it's one less thing to bring into the field and I wouldn't put them in a blind with you.
Northern BC...,works great
OK, you guys convinced me I needed a Thermacell. Last year during the early bow season a couple evening hunts I thought the mosquitoes were literally gonna pick me up and carry me off. So I bought a Thermacell to use this year based mainly on this thread.
Question: Whats the best way you've found to mount this joker onto something, like a treestand bar or a tree? Does it have to be kept upright to work well?
You mean it takes four pages to convince someone that the thermacell works are you kidding me my God come to South Georgia and find out for yourself cheese
I guess apparently Im that ignorant, Terry.
:wavey: This graemlin doesn't have a thermacell and is trying to wave off the mosquitos. :)
Darrin... that wasnt directed at you per say just funny because these threads have come up for the last 7 years thermacells have been around for 7 years they work they work they work they work by 1 they work.... they work they work and they were still at last 7 years they work they work they work go buy one please.... they work they work they work they work they work they work they work they work...
Yes!
God bless,Mudd
I was skeptical when I got one as a gift...was worried about animals smelling it and never used anything before so did not see the need. Nonetheless I put it in my daypack.
Few years ago we had more rain than before in late Summer and I hunt in deep swampy or thick canopy most time where even just inside field edge it gets dark quick. So I turned on thermacell for walk in so it would be nice and hot when I got to my ground blind.
No moquitoes...no breeze...few buzzing around but nothing out of normal. I get to my site and hear it hissing and see the smoke coming from it and can smell it...so I turn it off.
Big mistake...within couple minutes I was covered with thousands of mosquitoes...worse I have ever seen in those woods. I rush to get it going again...turn on flow, hit ignition, look through sight glass to see if turning red...then wait for it to heat up and start working as I hold it chest high this time instead of at my feet. Finally it gets smoking again....RELIEF.
Never made that mistake again! LOL
Darring Thermacells have a black block with a fold down screw on one end and a heavy duty rubber band to hold the unit two or three bucks at Acadamy.I find the holester they make can be placed on belt or branch in a tree.
