Title: Pika or Chinook
Post by: Buckeye1977 on August 07, 2017, 11:19:00 PM
I've been looking at possibly purchasing one of these but can't make up my mind. Opinions on which one is more forgiving and why one is better than the other needed. Have read that longbows are more forgiving of a bad release. I know that both are really great bows but need a little help with my decision! Thanks

I have 2 chinooks and 1 pika that I shoot regularly. I prefer the pika to the chinooks. The pika is super smooth and is slightly more forgiving on bad release. It shoots like a much longer bow. The chinooks are very nice as well but I feel the pika is smoother and easier to shoot.

My two favorite bows..!! Right now I only have the Chinook, I did at one time have both and felt like the Chinook was a little more forgiving and not as finicky on the tune as the Pika, but I had owned and shot the Chinook a lot more at the time.
I honestly would be hard pressed to pick one over the other...
My goal right now is to have one of each..!!

I've owned both, but prefer the Chinook.  Chances are you will like'em both and find you will want them both.

Both are superb bows, I think it would be better to decide simply, do you want a longbow or a recurve?  You wouldnt foul up going with either.  IMHO the Chinook is Dan's best/most well rounded model in all categories and is otherworldly quiet for a recurve.  The Pika fills a niche for a short longbow and is brilliant.  Best get one of each.

I love them both.  Chinook is the one I kept, but mostly because it was what I first killed with.

I too have owned both but I prefer the Chinook.  Mine is a 56"er with my 27" draw and it is smooth as silk and the best shooter I have ever owned, whisper quiet also.  I'm sure you will enjoy either as Dan is a top shelf bowyer.

Believe me I would like nothing more than to own both at once but not a possibility right now. Somebody would have to rescue me from the dog house!

I just received my new chinook from Dan Saturday . I have not shot the pika. I can say that this chinook is the holy grail of bows for me. It shoots right where I look. It is silent very forgiving and fast. I'm sure you will do well with either one.

Good luck.

Congrats on the new bow sounds like a match made in heaven! What are your specs Randy? For you that have shot both at same poundage, do you notice any speed difference between the two?

Nick,I shoot 50 pounds at 27 inch draw and 58 inch bow. I have been shooting a KWYK STYK at same specs. This Chinook seams faster and is quieter with no hand shock at all. I don't know about Pika but if its anything like Dan's Chinook its a winner. I can tell you this Dan is a class act.

I will be getting rid of some bows now that I have found this Chinook!

Thanks Randy. The Kwyk Styk is hard to beat. The Chinook I'm looking at is 47@28 which is same as my Kwyk Styk but is 2" longer at 58". Haven't hunted with the kwyk styk yet but would think the 58" would be short enough to do anything I need it too and might be a little more forgiving also.

Buckeye, I've owned a Kwyk Styk and a Chinook and found the Chinook faster, quieter and I seemed to shoot it better.  The Chinook was extremely quiet and totally dead in the hand.  A 56" KS will probably be the same strung length as the 58" Chinook.  KS being longer than expected.

I noticed that with another 58" bow I have must be the static limbs I'm guessing

Well I went with the Chinook! It's exact same specs as my Kwyk Styk but a 58" instead of 56". It's also a two piece which I'm pretty excited to see how that works. Hopefully I'll get it either this week or next so I can start tuning and get a good feel for it before deer season starts. Also it has the micarta riser with some pretty mango veneers!
Thanks
