Title: Samick longbows?
Post by: MIBIGHNTR on August 05, 2017, 09:28:00 AM
Any experiences, good or bad, with Samick longbows??  The Old Mountain line at Andover Archery looks hard to beat as well.

Thank You!!
Mark

I have an October products long bow. I believe it's rebranded samick long bow. It shoots well has a little bit of hand shock compared to my recurves. All in all it's worth the money.

I had one for a short while, I don't recall which model, but I liked it just fine. Kind of wish I would have kept it.

Never shot or held one of their longbows but Ive owned a sage and a red stag. The red stag was a pretty nice (and fast) bow for the money. Light and quiet. The sage IMO isnt even worth the ridiculously cheap price tag. I traded it very quickly.

Although I haven't shot either one, I have handled the Sage and Old Mt longbows. Nearly identical. The Sage had a smaller grip that I didn't care for.

Andover Archery has a heck of a sale going on right now on Old Mt bows. They also handle Greatree longbows. I highly recommend them as well. I shot mine today at a 3-D and did great with it.

I would get the FF string for it right away regardless of which bow you decide on. It makes a huge difference.

When my son was a teenager, he wanted to try the longbow, I got him a Samick Verna. I think it was the late 90's or perhaps a bit more recent. It is an entry level item, not very fancy but a solid little D/R bow. It is 62 inches long and has a 40# draw weight. I have never shot it a lot, because all my hunting bows are heavier than this. So, I took it out today and shot it a little. It handles well and I would not hesitate to take it hunting. For the money I am pleased, but naturally it is not in the league with my Hill style bows.

I bought an Old Mountain longbow from Andover.  Its a 68" edge #45.  Great buy for the money, especially at the 140$ price.

I bought a 68" Samick Red Stag longbow for my brother as a Christmas gift last year.  Although I didn't shoot it, the fit & finish was very good, I thought, for a sub-$150 bow.  He's trying to wear it out, he tells me - but not making any head-way!
