Title: How do you put a wrap on a tapered swaged arrow???
Post by: J. Cook on July 17, 2017, 06:56:00 PM
I have some older aluminums I'm dressing up and they have the swaged nock ends where the size necks down.  I've been using Onestringer wraps for years, but I can't figure out how to get them on nice and even on that angle change at the swaged end...  Anyone have any advice???  I'm sure it's proper cut of an angle into the wrap end before installing but I never did like geometry.

Are you referring to the actual nock end of the arrow where the plastic nock is glued on ?
If so you usually would not wrap that, just up to where the swag begins.

I'm thinking you just have to install where the shaft starts to taper.
Kev, I think he is talking about old competition aluminum shafts, usually X7 and XX75 that tapers before the actual nock taper so a smaller nock for the shaft is used. Like a 2016 needing a 1/4 nock.

I had this issue with some old Orange shafts. I gave it some thought then put them on. I used a razor knife to cut slits. Wasn't the prettiest but I covered most of it with cresting. Those arrows were expended otherwise I would try a picture for you.

M60...that's exactly where I'm at.  This is old stock autumn orange 2216's and they taper at the end to the swaged nock.  I'll try your method.  It seems like I should be able to figure it out, but no matter what I've tried I get an ugly wrinkle somewhere that annoys the crap out of me!

Maybe just spray paint the area or crest the the last inch or so. It's tough to help with no picture.

I think I know what you are talking about.I have had some older 2016 that were necked down about 3/4" to 1" before the swage taper that used a 9/32" nock instead of a 5/16" nock. There is no good way to make a flat wrap lay good with that part necked down.If you have the length you could cut that whole end off and install uni-bushings and then you would have a straight shaft for wrapping.Thats what I did for some  full length NOS 2016 shafts I picked up.

ok got it, don't think I've had much experience with those.
