Title: Selfbows and strap on quivers
Post by: Possum Head on July 16, 2017, 08:31:00 PM
Any of you hunters employ this combo? Of all hunting quivers I prefer bow models when working my way through thickets. For those that have tried, what's it like?

I never liked a bow quiver on a selfbow. I made them to bend to the handle and the bow quiver restricts the bow.

Makes sense to me. might just have to tie it on the bow until I reach my stand then tie it to the tree. Aint gonna be bustin no Velcro loose in the woods!

I prefer shooting bare bow, but shoot better with one on my selfbows.  Have always used one when hunting afield, haven't found anything better for the mountains and brush.  When hunting treestands, I use an Absorkee side quiver by Far West Leather.

Clay Hayes is shooting a really cool looking wood  quiver that would be just the ticket for a self bow.  The maker has a website he is in Florida.

I use a single broadhead sheath.  I attach it to a piece of leather about 3/8" wide to wrap around the thinner part of the fade out.  This pads a zip tie.  After tightening the zip tie, I slide and wiggle it down tight onto the fade.
On the other fade, I use a piece of soft lacing.  Tie a good flat square knot for the arrow to rest on and prevent noise.  I just make a loose half-hitch around the arrow, just to hold it secure, but it will release the arrow when I pull on it.

This is with a laminated bow, but it should work fine on any bow, and does not inhibit bow performance.

I know I am partial and not all will agree with putting a bow quiver on a selfbow, but I am in the camp you use what you like best.

I build a 2-Lite strap on bow quiver and a 3 arrow strap on bow quiver.  Here is my 2-Lite on a selfbow.

I really like how it takes some of hand shock out of the bow!

The carbon arrows in the picture are just for show.  I do shoot woods but thought the spider webs looked good in the picture.

Im looking for a self bow bow quiver too and am strongly considering this 1. I've heard good things about and the price is right.

Thanks for the feedback. I started this thread after sundown and before I could get a chance to try one out. This evening I made it a mission to give it a go and was I surprised! As mentioned up top I was concerned with the working portion of my limbs being hindered. To the contrary it appeared to have improved my shooting and I cant get over how quiet this set-up is. A four arra Eagles Flight will be my constant companion come Fall.
