Title: Simmons
Post by: scott myers on July 09, 2017, 03:51:00 AM
Any of you have success with Simmons sharks for elk?  I've used them on deer and they are fantastic.  I have also been using VPA penetrators and cutthroats as well.  All of them are fantastic would love to hear some thoughts.

I think the the consensus around here is that shoot what ever you like that you are comfortable with be it VP, zwickey, simmons, or whatever else. For elk and up a i tend to see recommendations for sharp two blade broad heads but a Vpa 3 blade would probably do just as well.

I've always used the two bladed VPAs.  Never tried a 3.  I agree with shooting whatever works best I was just curious about the Simmons on elk size game and how they performed .

Call and speak with the owner of Simmons. Dave Oligee.. He has been very successful on Elk using his heads. I feel confident in saying it's one of the best 2 bladed heads ever designed. I would use them on any big game animal.

They have taken Buffalo, but would not be my first choice for that.  With that small exception, I agree completely. They are great heads.  I know alot of large hogs have been taken with them, so they would have little trouble with an elk.

Have never used them for elk, but see no reason not to. I use the 175 grain Tigersharks for deer. Great broadhead.

I know several guys who have had great luck with them on elk. They all shoot mid 50s for draw weight and 500-700 grain arrows.

I shot my bull with the biggest Simmons head. The bull fell over in sight, no more than 10 seconds after impact. I didn't get a pass through, but I hit the shoulder joint on the far side, so take that for what it's worth.

Didn't share the pics, but the hole in this bull was large enough to put my fist in, and there were several handfuls of guts hanging out of the hole when I got to him.

My only broadhead from now on.
