It's been a long process...my cochlear implant was turned on yesterday. It will take about 2 months to completely program it...but I can hear again! I thought I was going to have to give up my hunting lease in Georgia as I couldn't hear the hogs in the palmettos but I'm good to go even with the initial program. I'm supposed to increase the sound level every two days from the initial program. I can hear things that I haven't heard in 20-30 years

Wonderful! Our adopted daughter was born deaf. She was shuttled around in foster care for a few years after issues at home I won't go into. She managed to graduate from college and earn a master's degree AFTER which she finally got the cochlear implants and was able to hear things she had never ever heard before--including her little daughter playing. What a blessing those devices are.

Nothing short of a miracle....seriously!
At age 11 I lost all of my hearing due to an infection that affected both ears. I was able to finish HS at the top 10% of my class.
Prior to and thru my college experience I experienced a approx 20% improvement in one ear only, the other ear never recovered.
Hunting Whitetails was a chore until my eyes took up the slack. I bow hunted in near total silence for many years after that and had several successful seasons.
Life is good....always!
Tony,
I haven't heard anything from my right ear since 1984 when I picked up Tularemia from seeing a baby rabbit in my veterinary office. After spending a week in Mass General Hospital with temperatures of 107 and written up in the New England Journal of Medicine, I was treated with Streptomycin which saved my life but also ototoxic. I had about 20% hearing in my left ear. Alot of times I would hunt in a Ghilli suite from my tree stand because I had to coninually scan for deer.
Last June I went complete deaf finally getting 10% hearing back in my left ear. It has been a long process but what an amazing gift to be able to hear again.
The implant is in my right ear that hasn't had any hearing since 1984. They now say there is no reason to be deaf...tippit
Great News Jeff! Very happy to see you get back your hearing.
I couldn't imagine hunting and not being able to hear! Glad you are recovering well
