I know we have several TG members who are active duty military, but if you are a member of TG and currently are on active duty status would you mind sharing that with us?
Not looking for vets, but the guys and gals who have the word ACTIVE on their current MIL ID cards.
Thanks.
Literally. Thank you!
To serve and find time to trad bowhunt is often times very difficult.
I am, but I'm in the Aussie Defence Force :-D
Here...Active Duty Marine Major, thanks!
Thanks for your service!

With the ops tempo all the services have these days, it is not surprising few will answer. These guys and gals get home, and then start -redeployment training, go thru advanced deployment training and then deploy again. Hard, busy rewarding life. Yeah, I miss it....
Semper Fi, Major
I thought of that, roadkill.
Times were simpler in my days in the 80s. Today's active duty folks have it tough finding time for family, much less trad bowhunting.
Thanks for your comments and support guys, there has to be more of us...please lets not turn this into a "me" post! Though I an not surprised...I have been in the Marine Corps 17 years and have never found another guy who shoots a traditional bow, and surprisingly never found another Marine who I would qualify as a "hunting partner". I thought, and people are surprised to hear, that there are not hundreds of guys crawling around trying to kill things with a stik bow!
Wolf, I would have hunted with you. I retired 20 years ago from MCMWTC. There were many bowhunters in Quantico in my days there, not many stickbows. Semper Fi
up until I retired in 2004.....i would get a month or two at home and then be gone again. was hard to shoot much less hunt in between deployments especially with need to spend quality time with wife and kids.... I never ran into another trad guy until I was about to retire and met a Marine from Beaufort Air Station that was in our Land Cruiser club....and got him interested in traditional..first with recurve and then with selfbows...think he is back to recurve now.

Keep his name in mind, Brock. If you still have his contact info, maybe touch base with him and keep it handy.
More to follow... Stay tuned...
There's a good thing brewing.
Wolf, this is about any and all
active duty trad bowhunters. I am testing the waters for the "brew" mentioned above.
14 years in the Coast Guard with 9 years of sea time.
Out bobbing in the middle of the ocean as I type this. Picked up a handful of pesky drug runners and over a ton of pure cocaine so far this patrol.
Good times.

Blessings brother! The enemies on the sea and the sometimes enemy, the sea itself. That is a tough job for sure!!
Safe patrols to you.
I am a medically retired Marine, married to an active duty Marine. We just bought, and moved into, a house in Stafford, VA. I'm getting the feel for the area, I do know how to get around somewhat. I talked with a guy from the Quantico Game Warden shack yesterday and he was very surprised when I told him that I shoot traditional and will easily pass the skills test in order to hunt in the bow only areas on base. (He said 3/4 arrows in a 6" circle at 15 yrds).
Wolf1007 I'm more than willing to meet up at the base range sometime.
I'm currently on my 13th year in the Army, 10 on Active duty and this is my third year in the Reserves. I wouldn't trade the experience's (good and bad) for anything. The training and life experience led me to my current civilian job (Game Warden) and l met my wife while on leave after my first deployment. People I deployed with are still like family and my current unit is very tight knit.
ALL THE WAY (hopefully one Tradganger will have the proper response!)
Thanks guys for your service.
13 years Army now a federal technician in the Air Force (Missouri Air Guard). Put on the uniform everyday and work on airplanes, just get to go home at night.
Josh, are you looking for "Airborne!"?
That I was Rodd! How far are you from Leonard Wood? I still go out there every couple of years.
5 hours..... I haven't been down there in 20 years or so.... I'm sure it's changed ALOT!
JARHEAD,
That's a dang shame, I just PCS'd from Quantico to Camp Pendleton in early June!
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of guys bowhunting on Quantico, just not alot I'd hunt with personally.
I'll tell you this...if you don't hang a stand on the west side of the food plots in 15A on a West or Southwest wind you're a nut!!!! Good luck, PM me and I'll give you all my spots!
S/F
Air Force, active duty
Jarhead, area 9B for me. Quantico is a great bowhunting spot. I drove down from D.C. every Saturday
I salute every service member. I think about half the nation is disconnected from our guys and gals who put on the cloth daily. They think they know....amazing how many kids cannot pass the ASVAB these days. I am almost 21 years retired, but still have all thiose "bad" habits-like running every other day. Surely do miss the integrity of people around me.
S A L U T E
I hear ya Skip. 24 years retired from the Navy. Just not the same anymore, even in my current career with Federal Law Enforcement. Just cannot get the caliber of people needed. Everybody wants to get paid for doing nothing, no work ethic what so ever. I salute all of the Active duty warriors.
Jarhead, Try Ft. Beloir too. I used to hunt there and they have great ranges both indoors and out. What I like about Belvoir is you could keep your stands out for the season. Other installations I've been stationed did not allow you to keep them overnight. There was a guy there at the range who did lessons and was very good with Traditional equipment but I don't remember his name.
Bump.
Active Duty Air Force as well.

Are you up at Langley? If so, there are a good amount of local 3D shoots with a solid group of trad archers...Dixie Bowmen, Tidewater Bowhunters and Archers, Kingsboro, etc...usually a shoot every weekend within an hour's drive or so.

I am currently stationed in the UK, and didn't get into archery until after I left Williamsburg 15 years ago. I will have to check them all out next time I go back!
Take it up...
Active duty guys and gals, check the giveaway forum.
And spread the word......
Well done, Bud. Thanks for caring

Two weeks to go and only two entries, I'd be liking my odds if I were wearing those fellas boots!
Thom
I know right. I might have to come out of retirement and run to the recruiters office.
Im Active Duty...SSgt in the USAF...9 years flying on the E-4B fixing and operating radios and data communication systems
Thank you Recurve Addict!
I was USAF back in the mid 80s. Got out as an E5. I miss it at times.

Thanks for your service! I was selected for promotion to E-6 last week actually. I can't imagine doing anything else.
Congrats! E6 was called Technical Sergeant back in the day, but the rank structure has changed since then. The chevrons are different now. I was part of the Senior Airman time period. I think that is now gone. Maybe?
No sir, Tech Sergeant is still my next rank. AB, A1C, Sra, SSgt, TSgt, MSgt, SMSgt, CMSgt. Buck Sergeant is the only change I believe from the rank structure for quite some time.
AB, Airman, A1C, SrA, Sgt, SSgt, TSgt, MSgt, SMSgt, CMSgt, CMSgt of AF.
So Buck Sgt is gone. We had some E4BS that never could get past the test.
My E1 pay was $573 a month. That was tough!
Stay safe Mark!
oh i just realized I left out Amn (one chevron)...rarely see those anymore
No longer active but I'm still in the Reserves. 21 years and counting. Great thing you're doing!
