Title: silvertip limb twist?
Post by: J-dog on June 24, 2017, 09:36:00 PM
OK strung my bow with new string today. Drew the bow a few times and noticed string wasn't tracking back into the "string groove" on the lower limb??? figure  limb twist?????????

short of panicking and emailing Beth and Dave is there anything you can do to fix it at home?

Just thought Id ask before I send it off to Dave for a possible fix on Monday morning. just a little over two months before season? I been shooting alot and hadnt noticed this til now.

Left it strung for a bit since I usually shoot before and after work? could that have done it? hasnt been in the heat at all except for shooting sessions.

Thansk yall!

J

This can happen occasionally on a recurve. Hold riser in non dominant hand and hold the end of the limb firmly in dominant hand and gently rotate in the opposite direction of the twist a few times...not too far, just off center a little bit to where you feel a little resistance.  Do this a few times and you should notice it straightened back out.  Also, drawing the bow and letting it down is not the same as drawing it and shooting it.  If you're torquing your hand on the draw at all this can put a little twist in the limb and cause what you're describing.  It's generally harmless but unsettling.  If gentle correction like I described doesn't cure it call Dave for further advice.  I don't think you need to worry much.

The string probably also needs to settle in.  Gently correct the limb and shoot in the string, get your brace set and I'm betting it doesn't happen again.
