... that the real reason for our American Memorial Day celebration isn't hot dogs and parades. Let's all spend one full minute remembering and thanking our brothers and sisters who sacrificed themselves for the continuance of the American way of life. With all our flaws and warts, America is still the best nation on God's green earth. Proud to be an American traditional bowhunter.
It's what it's for - God has blessed them all - let us at least remember them and their ultimate sacrifice!

What churls we would be, if we forgot that but for these, we would not be?
Pray for peace for the families who suffer such grief, and for the giving souls of those who died for us and our freedom. Every time I pop a cap I wish that I could have used it to bring a fellow American back.

And still I wonder, am I fully aware and appreciative of the extent of the efforts that have been expended on my behalf?
What price, a life? Thousands of lives!
And for me, life is good! I have my miseries, but in all, I am glad to be here. I hope that what I give back is sufficient.
Killdeer
Thanks, Dad.

Thank you for reminding what the real reason for the holiday is: our fallen brothers and sisters. Take a moment out to remember those who gave all so we could be free Americans despite our flaws.
A great thread for this Memorial Day - (and all days).
NEVER forget!!!
For all of our hero's and all of our wars. Many of us served most came back. This day is really for those that lost all and did not come back. And also for those that came back carrying the horrors of war. I just hope the current generation has some idea what these warriors did for us.
May they rest in peace and please if for just a moment listen to this.

I'm French, born & rise in Normandy, I and all French people especially from Normandy, won't never forget your boys who gave their life. Each time I go to Omaha or Utah beach, I pray their soul.
Thank you so much.
My father piloted a B24 Liberator on 45 combat missions in the Pacific Theater of WWII. He survived the war and passed away some years ago and I still think of him most days. 13 months ago I went to an air show in San Antonio and paid to take a ride on the Collings Foundation "Witchcraft", the only fully operable B24 left in the world. Before the flight, under the nose of the plane I began to talk to a guy about my age and discovered his dad was a B24 pilot as well. He did not know the details of his Dad's unit but he knew that he had flown a mission out of Noomfoers, Dutch E. Indies. My father had flown out of there as well, on the first raid (09/30/44) bombing the farthest oil refinery from Japan located in Balikpapan, Borneo. I asked did he know if that was the mission his dad flew as well and he confirmed it was and it was where his dad was shot down and killed. Later I looked at pictures of his dad and his crew and it struck me what a poorer nation we are to have lost them but that without them and so many others being lost we would not still be a nation. Remember the fallen today.

:notworthy: :notworthy: For those who served. :notworthy: :notworthy:
I can't help getting choked up during the final scene of Saving Private Ryan, in the cemetery. So many crosses, so much sacrifice, so many heroes. If you include all our wars, our freedoms have been purchased and secured with an ocean of blood, the blood of heroes. May God Bless them for eternity, and continue to Bless America.
I think I'll go watch Ronald Reagan's memorial day speech from Normandy now. That will get your mind right, on this day especially.
