Title: How long the footing on FMJ
Post by: cacciatore on May 27, 2017, 07:37:00 AM
I need a bomb proof for my FMJ, these Russian boars are build like a tank. I was wandering if a 1" footing is enough since the insert is deeper in the shaft. What would you use?

I've had really good luck with the arra-foot kits from Big Jim's, they're about and inch long and really toughen up the front end.

I make my own footings and always cut them 1/4" to 3/8" longer than the insert.

1" has always been plenty for me.

Not sure if anything over one inch does much good if you epoxy it on good

I agree with Bill. I believe that the footing serves more to keep the end of the shaft from starting to split.

1 inch is more than enough.
