I was just wondering what set up does Gene and Barry use... Bow type and poundage?
Listen in to Episode 21 and 23 of The Push Podcast.
When we interviewed them, we covered this in detail.
Enjoy!
Both currently favor their Tall Tines takedown recurves built by Brian Wessel. I think both shoot in the mid-50# range. Barry tends to stick with his favorite bow while Gene will pick up another bow from time to time.
I presently hunt with a 58" Tall Tines takedown recurve by Brian Wessel out of Keokuk, Iowa. It's #61 lbs. at 28". I shoot split fingers, instinctive with a plain leather tab. Arrows are the old, discontinued skinny Cabela's SST 230 carbon shafts cut 29.5". Yellow cap-wraps with three left helical yellow feathers. I also add a 3/8" strip of white reflector tape around the shaft between the nock and the feathers so I can find an arrow after dark in the leaves from 20 yds. away. I shoot a 125 gr. Woodsman BH plus a 125 gr. steel adaptor. The finished arrow weight is about 630 grains. I also shoot a removable Kwikee Kwiver that I remove while on stand. I also shoot a rubber finger type rest that I cut in half horizontally in order to get my arrow down closer to my hand. Works for me. BW
Barry thank you for the reply... I have always looked up to you and your brother Gene. I met both of you back in 1985 near my home town Petersburg Virginia at a show that you two put on. I was 18 at the time and I was so amazed to meet you two at that time. Thank both of you for inspiring me! I am now 50 and still love bowhunting and shooting that ole stick bow. Might sound childish but my dream is to meet both of you one day. God bless both of you.. Happy hunting!
Floyd: You were 18 when we first met and now you're FIFTY? Way to make me feel really old. I'm pretty sure I remember you though... jeans and a tee shirt with a camo hat on? Ha. God bless you too my friend. Hope to see you down the road. BW
