Title: Weight tubes?
Post by: tradrookie93 on May 03, 2017, 11:34:00 PM
Do any of you use weight tubes on a regular basis? What are your experiences with them in HUNTING situations? I need to add about 100 grains to my arrows. Trying to avoid cutting anymore or buying new arrows all together. Or do you think I have enough shaft to cut if I add 75-100 grain insert.
Bow-60#@28 I  draw to about 26" with 28" GT 400 trads with 150 grains up front.

I used them for a few seasons. There was never any problem with the arrows going through animals. The problem was shooting targets and stumps as the knocks kept flying out.   I had much better luck with rope stuffed down the shaft.  That is what I use now for my heavier arrows.

I don't know what bow you have, but I bet you could go a lot heavier on your tip and get better flight without cutting anything, that's a pretty short arrow for 150gr up front and a 54#@26". All depends on bow and how deep your riser is cut, I'd try that long before weight tubes. And if you just have to add weight to your arrow, realize it will lower your FOC, look through the traditional archery anf wilderness podcast videos, they are sponsor on here, you can find them on the sponsor list, he shows a sweet way to add weight via rope in the shaft, he mentions how it lowers FOC in the video. Try heavier heads first though!

I think you arrow is too stiff at your current set up, IMHO, I am pretty sure you can add weight to the point gaining those 100grs you are looking for.

Weight tubes work well, but yes indeed gives you issues with your nocks popping out. Unless you want to glue them or something.

I prefer the weighted insert idea, if you can make it work

I'm with the "add point weight" guys. Lots of advantages to that. Not so much with weight tubes.
