has anyone noticed the 3 rivers trad only arrow nocks fit tight on a standard dynaflight 97 string? i think there an easton nock
Easton super nocks usually fit tighter. Take some sand paper to them or redue the serving in your string with a thinner diameter material. If they are to tight it can cause tuning and flight issues.
Serve the string, don't modify a nock. That's a sure fire way to end up dry firing a bow.
I've never had a dry fire because I made adjustments to my nocks. That's total speculation. I use a special tool made for i sizing them and it works great. I don't have time to reserve every bow string I have just because my nocks are tight. Which with most carbon arrows they are. I often shoot different arrows out of 1 bow so reserving isn't a complete fix.
I don't think there is any such thing as a "standard" string or nock. The custom string makers usually ask you to send them one of the nocks you use so they can be sure their string will fit. I haven't had any problems slightly adjusting nocks to fit the string better. I hold them in boiling water to soften the plastic before I adjust them, so they are less likely to fracture. I also examine my nocks from time to time and replace any that look like they might fracture. Using the correctly sized serving to fit your nocks is a better option, of course, since it is easier than adjusting a bunch of nocks.
I use an emery board and just keep checking until your nicks snap on the way you like. I have been useing an emery board for years and have had no problems. Your only sanding not even a hair off.
McDave has the easy safe way to do it. Filing a nock is last, with reserve number two. Just because a filed nock has not yet failed does not mean a weakly cast nock in the future will not A failed nock may not ruin your bow, but it will give you pause.
The correct ways is to serve to fit. But that does make a small string than can be hard on fingers. Even with a good glove.
I'll agree, the nocks and most all carbon nocks need a bigger throat.
I serve to fit, then double serve the area below the nock for a larger diameter. It's much better on the fingers.
Like others said -what is a "standard" D97?
i forgot what the thickness was but the goldtip blems fit perfect, can you explain your process please dave?
I use 11/32 Bohning Classics on my ASL string made by TenRing Strings. The Classics are glue on nocks for wood arrows.
The Classics' nock valleys are actually too wide for Allen's standard serving. I could ask him for a wider serving, but instead I use the boiling water technique: I heat some water to boiling in a cup in the microwave, then hold the nock in the water for about 10-15 seconds. I then quickly nock the arrow on the string, pinch the nock tightly around the serving for another 10-15 seconds, and then release it.
The nock then fits perfectly, and retains the new shape.
My standard is 5/16 original Mercury nocks. Chad makes my strings and gets a perfect fit every time. My arrow is above the nock, so that perfect fit makes all the difference. Nothing can mess up my concentration on a game shot more than messing around with a nock that is too tight or too loose.
