Yesterday was my lucky day. Today i came into possession of a great condition Shaffer Silver-tip that my Uncle found in a pile junk left he was cleaning up from one of his rental units. He knew my love of Archery an Bow hunting and said it looked like something i would love to have instead of hauling it to the waste dump. Elk antler tips, Rattle snake skins, Antler limb knobs, checkered grip. Needs cleaned up and a little polishing needed, but damn, i feel up to that!! Wow! So lucky! That's an awesome find!
Wow , what a find .
:clapper: :clapper:
In a pile of junk!!! Hard to tell from the small pic but it looks like it was built by Paul. What is the draw weight?
You lucky dog!
You are one lucky guy!! Congrats!
Yea,I need a little luck now and than. This was awesome luck. I couldn't believe it myself when i was handed it. Say's it was made by Dave and it's 70# at 26, myself i can't either believe something this nice was thrown in the trash. But there is people out there that never know what they have or what they are throwing away. Also maybe a upset ex-wife? Very nice!
WOW! Great find
Great find !! Congrats
That is fantastic..... good for you!!!! Id love to have a Schafer.... and the fact ut was in with junk... WOW!!!
Holy Crap! Junk!!?? I would send to Dave to have it looked over. Maybe a refinish is in order. Whats the woods and specs?
A free Tip. That's pretty sweet. You might go buy a lottery ticket too just in case.
One mans trash is another mans treasure. Glad it got saved!
Wow! Can't imagine someone leaving that in storage!
Awesome
Yaa a refinish would be nice and maybe another set of limbs.Might even be able to get the weight reduced on those limbs if their too heavy.
Lucky score!
That's where that went!?!
Cleaned it up today and used fine steel wool to get a paint mark off of it. Only one small scratch on it. The surface from tip to tip is prime condition. And all it needs is maybe a coat of wax to make it shine. Even the snake skins are still top notch. It's a little on the heavy side 70# at 26" so i might have to join a health club.. :p
Good snag!
Bisch
That was meant to be !
Wonderful!
F-Manny
Wow, that's lucky. Awesome bow!
Wow!, glad it didn't make it to the dump.
I'd be taking the uncle out to dinner, or dropping off a 12 pack. Just to make sure no other "junk" gets hualed to the dump.
Good save
Better buy a lottery ticket. Nice uncle.
That's crazy! There was another Dude on here, found a 'Tip at a garage sale for a buck..
Damn if Paul was alive he'd probably crap his pants!
Good find for sure, but I doubt very much the owner just abandoned it. Probably lost, stolen or trashed by an ex-spouse. No name on it? It should have a name and/or serial number on it if you feel guilty about keeping it. Dave or Beth could probably solve the mystery.
Well... The Great One, has certainly shined on you Brother!!!
Gene the present owners of it wither they had it legal like or not knew the stuff was to be cleaned out but abandoned it after the appropriate days allowed. Most of the junk was just that, the bow was thrown in with it. Way ahead of you sent a email :readit: to Dave and Beth with numbers and name for info..and doing follow up on it. ;)
Nice one Mr. Vic...glad you are checking with Dave and Beth to make sure all is on the up and up.
Dude, you got to be kidding us. That is awesome!!
Update.... So far,My first email back from Beth is The bow made in 2002. I researched and sent out emails and found out the fellow the bow was made for /name on the bow hasn't lived in the area for several years according to people who knew him. Not much on him on the internet, but there was three and he is the third. We don't know yet if the bow was legally sold from him, if it was stolen or a ex threw it out. But if it was stolen or throw out by a ex How could any of us not want to know the truth before laying claim to it or make things right for the poor fellow. I know it is one the best bows out there and made by one of the best. I only dream of owning such things, an probably give a nut to own one of these bows. But i must go further... So i need help finding out, the name on the bow is Ralph Dowgin the third. Anyone know of him.
To help narrow it down, what parts of Iowa was his last known whereabouts? It's a must to find this individual, in my opinion.
A simple free search turned up only two listings in the USA for a Ralph Dowgin...

Call both of those phone #'s and see where they get you.
If you really wanna freak yourself out, go to Zabasearch.com and do your own information (name/state). It's scary what's out there for anyone to see...for free.
On the plus side, I was able to find a couple old Army buddies using that site.
Youve been given a bow alot of folks would love to have...... what your doing to find this fella.... I commend you Sir :clapper:
Thanks Mike, First number disconnected, second number all circuits busy. Even bombed out on closest relatives... He lived in Keo for a short time but two of his friends said they haven't seen him in years. The mystery/search continues.
Thank you Fitter.
Good stuff Vic.
Ralph lived in Keosauqua for more than a short time, but was gone a lot with his work. I moved from Keo six years or so ago myself so I don't have any updated contact info now. He lived in a white house on the right, just north of the bend on Rt. 1, several blocks north of downtown Keo. He drove a white single cab pickup truck (seemed like a Chevy). He was originally from N.J. and was a union pipefitter if I remember right. He often wore a welders cap when bowhunting. He wasn't ever married that I know of. Gene and I guided him on the Milk River in Montana back in the mid/late '90s. I know he hunted Mark Rogers farm in Douds, IA too. He seemed like a nice guy. If you find him tell him I said "hey". BW
Thanks for that info Barry. I seen where he registered a whitetail in Montana and wondered if it was with this bow. Not having good luck tracking this guy down or his family.. all phone numbers for such were disconnected or nobody knows him or will claim him. Might be taking a ride next week to keo and do some research. again thank you...
