Hopefully this is ok here. My 14 year old son picked up a stickbow for the first time 2 months ago and was hooked. Since then he's watched video after video of shooting, form, and hunting. There's no telling how many arrows he's shot. Well yesterday, he took his first archery animal and it's the first traditional turkey taken by anyone in our house. He wanted to hunt with traditional gear and no blind. I wasn't sure if we could do it but we made it happen. His bow is a 54" Timberhawk Strike, 46# @ 28". Arrows are GT traditionals 600 spine with 145 grain woodsmans up front. Here's a link to the video.

He missed a longbeard last weekend due to a rushed shot but he was so close. I think we're getting the hang of it. That video link is here too:

We are brand new to filming and youtube so please be gentle. We were both extremely happy with both hunts. Hope you guys enjoy and appreciate the work he's put in over the last two months and his abilities as a hunter at such a young age.

Awesome job guys! I would say your both doing fine in the hunting and video department.
How long was that shot? I am about 2 weeks in my traditional archery journey and that shot looked far! Great job keeping calm with that many eyeballs on you!
Congratulations to the both of you! Subbed!
Jeremy
Congratulations
Outstanding :- :clapper
Way to go Drake, nice shot.
One of the best youtube video hunts I've ever seen. I love the hunt focus and the young man's excitement.
I just sent the link to my nearly 14-year old grandson. He hasn't bowhunted turkey yet, this might get him fired up.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!
Good Deal!!!! Just doesn't get any better than that, congrat's.

The shot was 16-17 yards. He had his max range in mind of 20 yards. We had the decoy set up at 13 yards to try and keep them close. Good luck to you man!

Love that video. Drakes composure is amazing.
Congrats!
So Exciting!! Congratulations!!
That is awesome. Congratulations!! Turkeys are big game in my book.
I appreciate it very much everyone.
His composure amazed me as well. Considering this is his first year bowhunting. Actually only his 4th bowhunt. He missed a longbeard last weekend on his 2nd hunt, which is the second link, and the two other times he never had a shot opportunity.
He's a pretty remarkable hunter IMO.
Congrats Drake!! Well done!!
All kinds of awesome. No blind, no fancy $100 decoys. Trad all the way. Great job!! :clapper:
Thanks a lot fellas!
Truly an awesome accomplishment! He is a natural.
Congrats and thanks for posting!!
Well done.
Man, it don't get no better than that. Congratulations, Drake!!!
Darren
Congratulations Drake (and Dad)!!!
Is that the Funky Chicken decoy
Thanks guys. and yes, it's a Funky Chicken decoy. Seems to work ok. We had to have something to distract their attention.
Nice! Congrats Drake!
The enthusiasm after the shot was fantastic.
Nice Jake Drake.
I enjoyed the video and your post kill excitement. :)
Thanks fellas!
Drake has nerves of steel and the makings of a fine bowhunter...Congratulations!!
That was so awesome, congrats Drake.
Thanks guys. And yes, he held it together better than I could've.
Thanks for posting those videos for our viewing enjoyment. Fantastic job by both father and son!
Thank you very much sir! Glad you enjoyed them. We certainly enjoyed making them.
Very nice hunts. He truly makes a great effort.
The only problem imho is, that his seat is too low and the seat does not have an high enough back support.
These shotgun seats make you sit very low and in a slightly forward tilting position. It is very difficult to get a good shot off like that without your full upper body upright.
One can't really get a good shot off out of this position in a straight direction as his legs are always in the way pulling the bow.
The first miss (second video) was great footage of the gobbler strutting toward the decoy. Unfortunately there was too much brush. I would have tried to clear at least one or two shooting lanes so an arrow can pass through at these close distances. Essentially he took the shot in the worst body position for his setup.
For such a low position off the ground, I think a 48" bow would help him maneuver his bow much better.
One needs to be min. 24" off the ground for a 48" bow while for the 54" bow is needs to be 27".
It is also much more difficult to get a shot lower than vertical.
Other than that, great accomplishment and footage.
Way to go! A bow bird without a blind is quite a feat!
Nice work and thanks for sharing!
Way to go Drake it was a perfectly placed shot.
Superb!
